    Hi,

Im getting a plasma in very near future (was a hitachi 32pd3000 but will prob wait for new model now after reading this forum), anyway, also getting sky plus and a dvd surround all in one system. I read conflicting reports about whats the best way to connect and im confused so i thought id just ask and see what i find out. Here are my thoughts:

Connect the plasma to dvd via component,
Connect the dvd to sky via optical toslink,
Connect sky to tv via RGB scart,
also, Connect xbox to tv via component too if has 2 component ports like the new hitacho 32pd5000.

Does this sound about the best way to go? Does that all link up correctly or do i need to connect the dvd to sky via a scart as well as i seem to recall hearing that optical only carries sound?

Im sorry if im way off, but i plan to order and wanna get all expensive leads to optimise picture/sound and dont wanna be blowing £50 each on the wrong type of cables

Thanks in advance guys. Be gentle im new!

Optical only carries pictures and not sound but it seems to me that your connection plan is OK anyway.

The Sky Plus box is connected to the plasma by RGB scart to provide the picture and by Optical cable to the amp for the sound.

Sounds good, though i dont just want 'ok', i want the best i can get! :zonked:

One thing that confused me though from what you just said: You said that optical can only carry picture and not sound, but then you said that im connecting the "Optical cable to the amp for the sound"??

DO sky plus boxes carry component connections? Because now im waiting for the new hitachi plasma with 2 compoent inputs, wouldnt that be the best way to connect sky as well as my dvd/surround system?

Sorry if im being thicker than the offspring of a village idiot and a TV weather girl! (Blackadder, class!)

I'm afraid that I was suffering from a severe case of putting fingers to keyboard before the brain was in gear and not reading my post before pressing the "go" button. Optical cables carry sound only which is why they are connected to the amp.

Sky Boxes don't carry component video unfortunately and there is little practical difference between component and RGB anyway in general.
