Intentionally, I haven't been keeping up with hifi and home cinema (oddly looking at the websites and even buying a simple magazine ends up costing me hundreds of pounds), however I am being asked to buy a DVD player for a relative. I'm looking for something cheap, multi-region, rgb capable and simple to use; prog scan would be a nice bonus but is by no means crucial.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply. :)

I looking for cheaper than that though. I'm talking bargain basement here.

    How about...(all MR prices)

    Philips DVP520 (£50)
    Sony DVP-NS355 (£60)
    Toshiba SD240 (£50 - with prog scan)
    Pioneer DV370 (£60 - with prog scan)

I can personally vouch for the Sony and Philips performing well and playing back everything they should (the Sony's remote, interface, build and sound is better - the remote can control TVs too).

By the way, if you buy from richer sounds stores you need to tell them you saw £59.95 on the web site.

If you are running it through RGB you won't need a Progressive Scan player, it only does PS through component.
