My first post on here.....

We're soon to take delivery of a shiny new Panasonic PZ700 50 inch 1080p plasma and we went for a PS3 to deliver 1080 images. Sky HD to follow in a couple of weeks.

I've been reading posts about POTC and such like and am worried that on the big day I won't get that wow feeling when the installer turns it on.

So to get to the point......

What are the best Bluray movies I can get my hands on to convince she who must be obeyed that I haven't wasted a big pile of our hard earned?

Casino Royale, The Warriors, 300 (just so you know, it's grainy on purpose), Superman, First Blood. Starship Troopers is a bit patchy but when it isn't it's a great big screen experience.

Just got The Descent and it looks pretty good. UK version of Hostel has a good picture too.

The PQ on Casino Royale is so good it will give your eyes an orgasm...

POTC 1 & 2 were both pretty good too...

If you are looking for PQ alone then Crank is one of the best (although the film is stupi beyond belief) good audio as well.

Kingdom of Heaven has been mentioned so I'd also say that Deja Vu also has fantastic picture and audio quality.

Only had the PS3 a few days but "Casino Royale" looks absolutely superb on it.
Have also watched "The Last Samuari" which wasn't bad at all, and sat through "Behind Enemy Lines" last night...good PQ but the film itself was a little disappointing.
Have just taken delivery of "Pirates of the Caribbean" which is supposed to be very good on Blu-Ray.
Although we've seen the film a few times, we're looking forward to watching it again tonight in all it's HD glory.

i'd say world trade center or pearl harbor both very good discs shame really both films shouldnt have happened should they there are more good one's but these were the ones that i could remember

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but I watched this on BD last night. Cracking film, but has anybody else noticed the terrible continuity errors evident when Bruce Willis is talking to his Commanding officer, who is on board the aircraft carrier at the time with planes taking off and landing?
Forward the film to that chapter, and check how many times his watch shows different times ranging from 3.15 to 4.30 (I think) and then back again!
It's only because the PQ is so good that I noticed it this time around
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

What about the fact that planes are taking off and landing whilst he's talking. Do you think anyone would have heard him talking. Surely he'd be needing ear defenders and not a phone!!:D

I can barely hear myself think when a diesel train pulls away from me at the train station let alone an extremely loud fighter jet.

I think Training Day on BR is possibly the best I have seen :smashin:

Just shows how subjective picture quality can be. Training Day was one of the earliest titles that was available on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray and the BR version was deemed to have inferior picture quality.

POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl was a real eye opener for me along with Casino Royale. I'm still mesmerized by the opening credits sequence.....

Picture quality on Apocalypto makes Casino Royale look rather ordinary. It really is that good :smashin:

300 is not so good as it's bleached out and grainy (on purpose).

Open Season, CR, Deja vu, POTC, The Wild, I have watched loads of times each on BR and blown away every time (I am desperate for more KK I have to admit :) )

I obtained these 'Bruckheimer' pups recently too and would agree they will certainly provide you with that WOW factor you are looking for although ... the disc I keep on putting in to demo blu-ray to friends and family is:

CASONO ROYALE

It looks and sounds absolutely amazing ... the picture is dazzling and there are plenty of scenes in the movie to give you that justified WOW this is why we went for HD/Blu-ray feeling.

I was sceptical of the quality the PS3 would provide but my concerns were dashed when I saw (& heared) the end results.

Grab any of these films but most importantly CASINO ROYALE and you will NOT be disappointed :smashin:

Can only go off what ive bought, Layer Cake, Pirates 1 & 2, The Departed, and Black Hawk Down, and they've all bene visually stunning. Also seen C. Royale and its the same thing there.

I've already got BHD on DVD, but hadnt seen it for a while, and the thought of seeing it again in HD really had me looking forward to getting my PS3 and 32D3000 (HD, 24p, Cinema mode.... stunning!), and it really didnt disappoint, its a fantastic film and seeing it in such clarity really adds to the amazing (true) story.

The Departed is very good, as is Layer Cake. The Pirates films are fantastic examples purely because of the rich colourful enviroment its filmed in, coupled in with a great story, particularly the first, and its a great way to show of the capabilities of HD TVs and movies. Similar with Casino Royale, great example, but i think i'd agree with most that Pirates 1 is probably the #1 essential BR purchase, its a great film made even better.

I think the CGI films will also be very good, but i think the level of unintended detail that you can see in real film will be the best example, CGI just has the fact that its computerised detail your looking at sitting in the back of your mind, its always been crystal clear, only now its sharper and more defined. Maybe thats just me, but i feel its the stuff you spot that you know instantly you'd never see in a million years with SD footage that brings home how great it is.

Not wanting to get into the debate here as there was enough of that on the 300 thread but, if you saw 300 in the Cinema and enjoyed it then the Blu-Ray disc will not disappoint one bit as it is a faithul reproduction.

Here's an extract from my comment on the 300 thread;

"I too love the 'real feel' of some films on HD formats, like Crank for example but, as a movie enthusiast, I also appreciate the need for stylised movies and admire the director / cinematographer / graphic artist's skill in creating such films.

300 is NOT meant to be a real life representation ...... it is meant to appear as a graphic comic novel and that is EXACTLY what the director has achieved."

As for recommendations, I think Kung Fu Hustle looks really good. It was the first title I bought on Blu-Ray after being wowed by the trailer in a shop window on TCR.
