I am after getting a stand alone Blu-ray player to go with my new TV (Samsung LE46A686) instead of using the PS3 and don't know a lot about them. I have been looking at the Sony BDPS350 £170, Panasonic DMP-BD35EB £185 and the Samsung BD-P1500/XEU £150 but like I say have no idea which one is best.

I don't have a fancy speaker set up, yet, still working on the other half, but might do soon if I buy here a dishwasher! Also I am not a full AV addict (yet) so have no need for a £300+ player as it will only be used a couple of times a week.

Is there any advantage getting the Samsung to match the TV?

Any thoughts or advice would be really appreciated.

No advantage I can think apart from you may be able to use the tv remote to work the main features of the blu ray and asthetics. Neither would be deal breakers for me. You should be pleased with either of the machines KF recommended.:smashin:

    I'd second the BD35.

    Take your pic...
    Sony BDPS350 Blu-ray Disc Player 1080p Full HD: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
    Panasonic DMP-BD35EB-K Profile 2 Blu-ray Disc Player: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
    Samsung BD-P1500/XEU - Blu-ray Disc Player: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

My personal choice is the BD35, but if you have an older amp that has an optical input then the Samsung BD-P1500 does very cool things where it re-encodes any HD Audio to max bitrate DTS over optical which is an appreciable upgrade over that which you'd get from the other two.... both the Samsung and Panasonic would work with the TV remote as Samsung support Viera Link

I can recommend the BD35, very impressed with mine so far.
If you do decide to get an AV amp and speakers, just make sure you get one that can decode the new formats. The player can then send bitstream and let the amp do the work.
