      Evening All,

I’m in the process of creating a loft home cinema and now need to look at the receiver that’s going to power it all.

      The setup is 5.4.1.

Front speakers are mission 753 floor standers, Centre mission 75c, rears are mission 753 (or 752 freedom if these are better suited). Atmos speakers are Speakercraft ASM55101 - PROFILE AIM5 ONE. Sub is an active Yamaha sub.

All quite old speakers apart from the Atmos but I’ve had great result with them on my old Onkyo 828 setup.

      Any suggestions welcome [emoji106]

I would recommend the Marantz SR7011 which is currently available for about £899, but retailed for £1500. It’s replacement, the 7012 is going to be £2000 or so and is largely the same.

It also handles music very well, which is rare at the <£1000 price point.

I presume that is 5.1.4, or you have 4 subs and one Atmos speaker, which isn't a thing!

+1 for the Marantz SR7011, very good value at the current price. You *may* want to think about adding some external amplification later on down the line, but in a loft room, which sounds like it might not be too large, and could have unusual acoustics, you may not need it.

      +2 for the SR7011 @£899, is a bargain imo

An alternative would be the Denon X4300H which is also a great receiver and seen it at peter tyson for £860; however, for music, i'd go for the marantz

Cheers for the recommendations guys! Sounds like the Marantz is the one to go for.

My mistake! Only one sub and four Atmos speakers!

The loft is fairly big so hopefully should be ok:

SR7011 but hurry going quickly, got mine for 649 with P/X with 7008, I'm happy with that

if you find that the marantz is not powerful enough to fill your loft, it has pre-outs to add external amplification if needed.

The Marantz 7011 does represent excellent value right now. If you feel you might need a little extra power then the Marantz pm 8005 integrated amp would be an excellent choice at a bargain price of £549. It has HT by-pass so could easily be used with the 7011 or standalone CD player for better music production.

Have you tried it yourself? I think I may go down this route, I’m just waiting to see what PM8006 is going to be priced like

I am very very tempted, either with using the HT pass through or a speaker switch so I can make the very best of my Marantz sa 8005. But I bought to 8005 so I could use my cd 6006 with headphones plus two sets of 'phones so trying to get a pm 8005 past the wife at this moment in time might be a little difficult.

On the other hand if I pay your bus fare would you like to run that past her?:)

For that size of room, I would recommend you look at 7.1.4 speaker setup, to go with either Denon 6400 or Marantz 8012.

It's not as if 1 grand is the final ever budget. It's best to put cables in at build stage itself to support 7.1.4. You can always add speakers later. Going by Denon 6300's prices, the 6400 will come down nearer to £1200 after Christmas. Or pick up a 6300 for bargain price (assuming its issues have been sorted with firmware update).

The cinema is going to be the top half of that area so not as big as you would imagine. Seats around 5m back from the screen so that’s the soundstage really.

Still ok to go with the first suggestion of Marantz 7011?

The Marantz SR7011 would be a good choice at present, due to the reduced price, making it less than half the price of the Denon 6400, and I would expect the upcoming Marantz 8012 will be even more expensive than that.

The Marantz has got processing for 11 channels, so if you add a 2 channel power amp later on, you would have the option of running a 7.1.4 set-up.

My lounge is 16.5' X 12.5' and has a 7.1.4 Atmos system. Certainly worth it. I would highly recommend to at least put cables in during the build. As mentioned, you can add a stereo amplifier for 7.1.4 with SR7011. My setup is SR7009 + PM6005.

Do you find the PM6005 is better with music than your receiver?

Music isn't my priority. My PM6005 drives 2 Atmos speakers. I wanted the same amplifier to drive the fronts and centre.

Guys what’s your opinions on the Denon AVRX6400H against the Marantz?

I may be able to source one at a very good price!
