Just built a system and am in the need of some quality anti-virus software.

I ideally want something that has spyware detection and possibly a built in firewall too.

Is this the route to go down or am I best sticking with windows defender and firewall? (have vista Home Premium 32bit)

Also dont want something that will really effect the speed of my pc. (I.E. slow start up etc)

A friend of mine reccomended zone alarm. Is this any good? He argues that because its anti-virus, spyware and firewall in one it dosn't hog system resources as much as 3 seperate progams would. Is he right? Or is there a better product out there?

    Cheers,

    Jamie

you need to be a little wary of magazine reviews of these products.
the testing - and the test data - is not as rigorous as it could be....

I did a little research last night and it seems that Kasperskey 7.0 its topping a few polls as 'best anti-virus'.

I've read that it dosn't slow down your system and works very well as a anti virus. Plus the security suite has anti spyware and firewall built in. On paper very impressive. Anybody agree/disagree?

I completely agree. Kaspersky is the best - alongside with Eset's NOD32.

Saw a copy of Norton 2008, still not great but it is much better than the abysmal offerings from the last few years.

Still not as good as their corporate offerings though :thumbsdow
