Interested to know what members favourite and least favourite endings are to shows they've followed from start to finish.

If you are describing any parts please make sure spoilers are put for those that haven't seen the show(s) you are describing.

Best for me easily Six Feet Under. I'm man enough to admit I cried like a baby :)
Other fav's include Lost (again shed a good few tears) and Prison Break.

Least favourites are House and Alias. Alias was terrible IMO after such an awesome show.

you liked the ending to lost and prison break?

Those two were contenders for my worst endings, alongside the wire.

Best ending categorically has to go to the shield imo.

Let me clarify, i dont mean the worst show, i mean the worst ending from what was otherwise a decent show.

Im fairly sure breaking bad will be in the best list.

Theres so many i could say for bad endings, house and dexter are more perfect candidates, they just dont know where to end them.

Lost was far and away the worst ending on any show. Thoughroughly disappointing

I have to agree with Chox, the endings of Lost and Prison Break were very poor.

Obviously Lost is more of a personal thing to the individual, but I thought it was a kind of cop out that the writers didn't know how to end it? Prison Break was just down right bad who ever you are!

The best for me so far, Breaking Bad, pending, were Six Feet Under and The Shield.

SFU was very good as it was one of the only shows that I know of that showed us what happened to every main character in the future through the eyes of a character. Brilliant, shed a tear too.

And The Shield has had enough spoken about it, superb from start to finish!

The Lost ending was pure muck. Fringe was sort of middling, better than Lost though.
I really liked the ending to Rome:

    Rome spoiler:
The camera rises above the market and we see the backs of Titus Pullo and Caesarian as they walk into the distance. Titus Pullo says to Caesarian: "Listen, about your father..". Cue the first end credits of the entire series with a version of the theme music over this scene.

    Ashes to Ashes also brilliant.

    Somebody hold me back!

The Wire and Six Feet Under get my votes for best endings to a series ever.

Lost cant win the worst ending as the last few seasons were terrible so it was just par for the course at that point, and aside from shows which just didnt get a proper ending due to being cancelled *cough*SG:U*cough* id say Quantum Leap which basically faded to black and gave the viewer the finger.

20 year old spoiler I guess...

"Dr. Sam Becket never returned home"

What!!?? But..but he can control the leaps now...!!!??

Wow, quite a strong response for Lost :D I know I'm pretty much on my own in liking Lost's finale. It wasn't so much the story as I still have some confusion as to what it was all about (just finished re watching the entire series) and I can understand why it was a disappointment to most. It did seem that the creators got 'lost' themselves writing it. I loved the ending mainly from an emotional point of view. I spent the best part of six years with these characters and bonded with them in some way so I found the ending
    very touching.

Prison Break was great I thought.
Granted it was pretty sad which I know grates people who love a happy ending
(I still haven't seen the Final Break so I don't know what happens there or if it has a different outcome to the one I've seen). Re watching it all at the moment. Half way through season 1.

    Fringe was pretty average.
It was just a 'nice' ending.
I didn't like season 5 if I'm being honest. It started going downhill in season 3 for me.

I'm on season 2 of Breaking Bad. It's amazing so far.

I've loved Dexter right through (season 6 being the weakest) but the final season is just bad, very bad. I'll be gutted if they cock it up after being such a good series overall.

Has anyone seen the end of Chuck? I've seen seasons 1-4 but not the final.

The lost ending was bloody emotional. I cried during most of it
Six feet under was a genius was to end it
The Shield too had a decent ending

Have to agree I hated the ending of quantum leap, so disappointing.. They really need to reboot it

Hope Mad Men finishes on a high. I found the 6th season to be the worst. Not saying it's bad at all, but after the superb 5th season I thought season 6 took 5 or 6 episodes to get on it's feet. Hope season 7 ends well.

Best = The Shield. Complete perfection.

    Worst = Lost. Complete shambles.

Honourable mentions to The Wire, Band of Brothers and even 24.

Dishonourable mentions to The Sopranos (awaits hurricane of anger), Prison Break and Fringe.

To be perfectly honest, many writers clearly don't give enough thought to an ending. Same goes for films, so many are a letdown.

Deadwood was not a bad ending. A final episode that has you on the edge of your seat waiting begging for someone to say something or kick off is not a bad ending imo.

Fringe was a bit of a let down thats for sure.
Prison Break I think actually improved for the ending after the poor season or 2 before it. Still poo compared to the first series.

    Soprano's :thumbsdow
Yeah yeah yeah people will blab on about it being the viewer could decide blah blah blah but it sucked compared to previous Seasons. Could of went out with a bang but left us with that slow dull ending.

I would mention the Shield but dont want to talk about it again. Too many feelings I have pushed down inside to bring those up again

Best: The Wire, The Sopranos (it was masterful - shakes fist at Rich and Tones ;)), The Shield, Band of Brothers, Life on Mars, Breaking Bad (I hope!).

Worst: most tv shows don't have very stand-out endings.

I hope people don't build up Breaking Bad too much though, what if it doesn't live up to the hype ??

    The Internet would explode

I will add ER to the list of best imo. Great from start to finish.
Oz was also a great ending...
You got to see outside the prison for the first time. Was weird

Spartacus was a pretty decent end to the whole series to.

That's was the problem, it got cancelled. It was a great season finale, but not a good show finale. It was very tense and would love to have seen season 4 pan out.

Invested a lot in Fringe as well, and that kind of faded away.

Had forgotten about Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, another brilliant ending.

Will probably be in the minority, but didn't like the end of the Sopranos either. Why leave such a good show with a 'make your own mind up how it ended' ending?

Cool thread for a thursday lunchtime.

As per above, I loved Rome. Band of Brotheers is the best one i can think of. Seeing the people doing the intro/outro, but with their names and what happened to them all.

Blackadder goes forth was powerful, different and unexpected.

Shows that get cancelled after the end can suffer. V (newer version) and The Event spring to mind.

"The Final Cut" was a great end to the trilogy.

    Soprano's anyone ?

    Another negative for Lost here.

So much of the show was awesome. Tailed off in the latter stages and the end was just terrible.

One day i'll get around to watching the whole lot again (in HD this time) though:D

These are all good shows that im about to talk about but bad endings imo, not bad shows. I think thats what makes this thread interesting.

I dont think it was that prison break was sad, its just by this point it was so rubbish that noone cared that it was. Yeah the end of chuck was bloody awful.

Agreed about the sopranos, much like the wire, it was such a fizzle by comparison to previous seasons that it was just a bit naff.

You didnt like the end of the shield?!

    :D

If they'd padded the end of s4 and left it i'd agree with you but as is it just wasnt anywhere near the calibre of the rest of the show.

There are a few mentions on here I'd forgotten about!

    Blackadder was amazing.

I found 24 disappointing tbh. Hopefully it'll be rectified when the new series starts.

I hate it when they cancel shows that I've been watching and leave the end unanswered. Few examples include The Event, Deadwood, Flashforward (I wasn't a huge fan of the show but the series ended on a great cliffhanger) & Terra Nova (again not a big fan but had a good cliffhanger)

I found the end of Prison Break quite sad but you are right, season 4 was pretty dire throughout.

I've heard Chuck is bad. I loved the first 3 seasons but it started to look cheap by season 4. Will get around to watching the final season when I get chance.

I loved BSG but I absolutely hated the ending, really felt like such an anti-climax. And what they did to Starbuck in the end.

Talk of cancellation reminded me of the Planet of the Apes TV series.

It was so dire that it was cancelled halfway through the first (and only) season, leaving our two heroes stuck in the middle of a lake at the end of Episode 13.

And, with no Episode 14, they must be still there to this day!

Is Blackadder Goes Forth the one where they
leave the trenches and run into no man's land
at the end? If so, that really resonated with me too.
