Dunno if we have this yet or not but here goes...

    BEST (in order):

    Mario Kart Double Dash!!
    Zelda Wind Waker
F-Zero GX - Haven't played it but have read some great reviews
    Player's Choice games
    GTA Vice City Xbox version

    WORST (in order):

Can only think of one and that's Viewtiful Joe. Awful  :thumbsdow

I'd suggest you grow some eyes if you think Viewtiful Joe is awful, it's the best game on the Gamecube last year.

    Best PS2 game was FFX-2.

Best XBox, tempted to say something like Links2004. PGR2 as well.

    I don't buy bad games, so I can't comment :)

Well I buy games that have a good review but most of them turn out to be rubbish. Why doesn't Viewtiful Joe appeal to me? It's a side-scrolling level game. You might as well make it 2D. It's pretty much a poofy super hero. Eg, Viewtiful means Beautiful View and his life things are petals. Plus his powers aren't that great. You get em too early in the game. Plus all my mate heard about FFX-2 was... well let's just say I'm not allowed to say the word on this forum...

We'll just have to agree to disagree though. I think you need to look below the surface though. And your friend is very wrong about FFX-2, it is stunning, one of the best RPG's yet, in terms of gameplay moreso than story.

I hate to break this to you but my friend is the biggest FF nut I've ever seen and has been playing since 1 came out. He is a true expert on the games and loves em all, except X-2. It's just another follow up to X isn't it? Well anyway, he says that nothing can beat VII. X comes closely in 2nd though.

    VI beats VII.

I'd be interested to know why he dislikes X-2, to start with, the battle system is probably the best of all of them.

X was nowhere near second to XII, if anything IX was far better than X, certainly got more of my playtime. Also, XIII was better than X.

Viewtiful Joe is awesome, you get the powers early because the game is all about performance, notice you get a score for each mini-round? It is true arcade you are supposed to play it over and over perfecting the moves. Much like Ikaruga. :p

Best games for me last year :-

FFXI - Awesome still playing, completely hooked.
    Viewtiful Joe
    Animal Crossing
    FF Tactics Advance
    Fire Emblem

    Worst games
Unreal 2 - Pile of poo
Halo on PC - Not a bad game per se, but completely overhyped and therefore I was extremely disappointed.
Zelda WW (hehe, might get blasted for this, but this is not a good RPG as far as I am concerned, I can play the SNES version over and over, I have hated the 3D incarnations of Zelda)
Loads of PC beta tests for awful MMORPGs!

Good job we all like different games otherwise where would these software companies be :)

    Stunning game

Robocop on Xbox! Oh and T3 and Charlies Angels 2!

    Best

Quite a few across all systems, and some that are rubbish, but I just enjoyed playing!

I have a lot of personal faves in 2003. I'll just list my favourite five though, in no particular order:

Virtua Fighter 4: Evo - the AI is alive.
Viewtiful Joe - how can anyone say this is a bad game...because it's 2D?
F Zero GX - 'cos it just is. Ok?!
Zelda: TWW - I liked it. Thought it was a really enjoyable game to play, anyway
PC Genjin - excellent 2D fun. A worthy contender to Mario and Sonic 'back in the day' and the GC update is brilliant.

    Worst:

Any EA game, except SSX3 which is quite good. Everything else they've released is complete crap though.
GTA double pack - The very definition of a sh*t game.
Manhunt - ooh blood and violent...boring.
Apart from those...95% of the crap that reaches the top 15 of the charts deserve the 'Worst game of 2003 award'.

Wind Waker was actually quite rubbish. Nintendo made fun of themselves by not showing what they really can do, instead they turned a Great game into a pile of poo by making it Cel-Shaded graphics. C'mon peeps! We all know that Ocarina Of Time and A Link To The Past are the best ever! I have played FF VII actually but it was a while ago, fun to run around on the Chocobos.

Quite rubbish, yet one of your games of the year :)

It was good, just too easy. I don't see how it's graphics can turn "a great game into a pile of poo".

Apparently they wanted to make WW look realistic but there were some effects they wanted to use such as "shiny water" that the gamecube cannot produce. So they went for the cel-shaded look as it is a lot less processor heavy.

Looks good though imo, although I found the game tiresome after a while.

Best gamecube game of 2003 probably smb2 or metroid prime.

Best xbox game 2003 project gotham racing, which is also the best game of all time. ;)

Metroid Prime was a 2002 release? Thats why I didn't list it :p

I thought the graphics in Zelda were awesome, I love the cel-shaded look, I just don't like the kiddy gameplay. What happened to the difficulty levels you used to get in the NES versions? This was a game where death used to happen frequently, not so in this version.

You've made a lot of anti-GC comments in the past but that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on any games forum.(no offence intended, btw)

    Mario
    Pikmin
    Wave Race
    Monkey Ball
    Metroid

All have incredibly realistic water - far more realistic than anything I've seen on the Xbox...and three of those games were launch titles

btw Zelda wasn't made realistic because it would take too long to render a complete world in the kind of detail seen in the Spaceworld 2000 demo. That's the reason why it was cel-shaded. Not because the GC cannot do 'shiny water'

    You'll be saying it can't do 3D graphics soon:rolleyes:

Well Zelda was kinda realisitic ie, Link's facial expressions and the explosions. But I just don't like the size of his head. It's massive! LOL! If they had made the graphics and diffictulty like OoT and MM, then it would've been game of the century! OoT's still Nintendo's number 1. WW is number in the mixed Cube and GBA charts.

Beg to differ. I have a gamecube. Being critical isn't being anti-something at all.

Maybe the 'shiny water' thing was a bad example, but I read somewhere that it was cel-shaded becayse some of the effects they wanted to use gamecube couldn't produce.

I take it also you don't own an xbox because that is ridiculous to suggest xbox doesn't look as good.

You just have to look at halo and pgr2 off the top of my head to realise the difference between that and say, mario sunshine's water and waverace's water.

    No offence either btw. :)

EDIT - I just loaded mario and halo up and the difference is quite stark i'm afraid. And that's running them side by side

No, Gamecube could produce realistic water and not cel-shaded water if they wanted to. But Nintendo were stupid enough to make WW cel-shaded therefore, they did not test to see what the Cube was capable of. Anyway, the water in OoT and MM looks realistic enough to me...

I didn't neccessarily mean that gc can't produce "realistic" water. Although thats what i said. It was a moot point. What I actually meant was that it was cel-shaded because of some effects (that i can't recall) that they wanted to use but couldn't.

BTW gamecube zelda DOES look good as it is. It was a good compromise.

I never said Xbox doesn't look as good:rolleyes: I said I haven't seen water effects on an Xbox game that look as good as the water in any of the five games that I mentioned...there's a big difference.

My worst game of 2003 was Auto Modellista on PS2- I had it about an hour.
My best was succesfully resurecting Frontier on my PC's Amiga emulator....

    ohh best games of '03

PES3 - outstanding game - still play it with my mate virtually every day - my work has sufferred terribly!
Hearts of Iron - great PC WWII strategy game
Call of Duty - great game in both 1ply and online
GT4p - fantastic!! Best racing sim i've played - can't wait for the full game!

    Worst games of '03

Unreal 2 - nice graphics but dull, tedious gameplay
Republic the Revolution - Oh GOD how dire is this!!! It promised so much with it's "real living city" but all you ever see are clips of people talking - totally pointless use of a 3D engine!

That's it - all the other games I bought were ok! I thought Planetside was a good game to start with and the squad based action worked well - got too samey though so i quit my account after a few months.
