Im about to return my faulty SR5400 to the retailer and am probably going to look at getting a different amp all together. Whats the best amplifier you can get for around the £300 mark?

    My requirements are ...

    - The usual decoding standards (DD, DTS etc...)
    - Good quality stereo reproduction.
    - Good, clearly laid out remote control (unlike the SR5400 :D )
    - Video upsampling from component to S-Video

    Secondary requirements are ...

    - On screen display.
    - Silver finish (to go with asthetics of other equipment).

Does anyone have an opinion on the Yamah 740RDS? I believe and I may be wrong that this is now end of line. Is it worth the money (currently around the £360 mark).

    Cheers,

Just replaced my Marantz SR5300 with Azur 540D + 540R combo. Seems very good in stereo, has all surround formats you need DD DTS etc., very elegant remote (Marantz remote was a mess wasn't it). Do you mean upsampling from composite to s-video? I thought component was the best! 540R has component in/out. Silver finish, has it in spades. BUT no onscreen display
    :thumbsdow
    Then again £250 richersounds. :smashin:
