I'm looking for one for my mother in law.
The main criteria is fast processor, a big screen & a DVD player/writer.

Is this any good?
LENOVO IdeaCentre 300 23" Touchscreen All-in-One PC

I'm not bothered about graphics cards. It will be used mainly for internet, MS Office, e-mail, photo & video storage. Looking for something that won't be too slow in 2/3 years time.

Any suggestions welcome.

It doesn't fit your criteria. The U suffix indicates a laptop processor and the Pentium branding means it's one step below the i3 branding that's the most common choice in laptops.

A 23" screen is also medium-sized at best, big these days is 27-35".

It should be adequate for three years. It's always difficult to predict the future but processor performance over the last half decade hasn't advanced very fast. A lot of the focus has instead been on integrated graphics and working better at lower power levels (which enables smaller and thinner devices) rather than outright performance.

Something like this would be closer to what you asked for, although it's cheapest configuration is over budget to the tune of £222:
PCSPECIALIST - Configure the VanGuardII 32 to your ideal requirements.

That provides a screen that's higher resolution so she can fit more on, at a diagonal that doesn't reduce the size of on-screen stuff compared to a 23" 1920x1080 screen.

It also takes standard desktop processors instead of the low power laptop models, an i3-6100 is nearly twice as fast as a 4405U.

It doesn't provide a DVD drive, although external drives are small and cheap.

Thanks.
£500 is the max budget unfortunately. I'm looking for as fast and as big screen as possible for that budget [emoji6]

What about this?

I guess the £500 budget just isn't enough for an i3 processor, DVD drive and a SSD?

Any recommendations for a cheap external DVD drive?

You must have bought the last one in the UK!
I called PC World Currys and it's been discontinued forever.
No stock in any store or warehouse.

It was their display model. Said it was out of stock online. Was looking in the store for another reason and spotted one. They said the display models don't show as stock online so worth checking with individual branches as they may have a display model.
