    Hi,

I want to buy a 65" TV. Most of the time I will use the TV for gaming with PS4 PRO and Netflix. I have chose a few models and I need to decide today because of the ongoing promotion for the Samsung 2018 line-up (10% discount + 30% voucher money).

    1. Samsung QE65Q7FNATX - 1390 euro (1 year warranty)
    2. Samsung UE65NU8502 - 1150 euro (1 year warranty)
    3. Sony KD65XE9005B - 1350 euro (5 years warranty)

I would really appreciate your help ! Thx

I have moved this to its own thread as there is little use discussing it in an unrelated existing thread.

The advice that I have given in the other thread still stands, the Sony is the best TV.

The Q7 Samsung you are paying more for less picture quality although it does have better smart TV.

The other Samsung is an awful choice and is very overpriced because its a newly released 2018 model.

    Dodge - it’s a 2018 Q7. I still think Sony edges it.

Are there big differences between the Q7F and Q7FN ?
@Dodgexander I would like to know your opinion also, the XE9005 or the Q7FN ???

Thx for the link. From what I saw there is that they are really very similar.

    Pro Q7FN :
    1. HDR gaming
    2. Smart TV (faster)
    3. Cable management
    4. Design

    Pro XE9005 :
    1. HDR movies
    2. Warranty (5 years)
    3. FALD

Unfortunately it make my decision harder :)) .
As both of you have better knowledge than me in this area, please let me know what would be your choice, considering that the prices are similar.

Thx again and sorry for so many questions !

If you care about smart TV get the Samsung.
If you care about local dimming more (dark room performance in HDR especially) get the Sony.

Or just wait for the new XF9005 and Q9FN to come down in price.

Sony XE9005 - warranty makes it a clear winner. You can bypass the smart tv with Apple 4K or a Roku Stick - see what it’s like first and keep apps to a minimum.

In the smart tv area I will use most of the time Netflix, HBO Go, media server and the browser. I don`t think that a top mid-range 2017 Sony TV want work acceptable and I will need a Roku for that. (at least I hope so :thumbsdow)

One more question before I decide to go/not go to buy the TV. Do you think it will be better to wait a little longer before making this purchase (1 or 2 months) because I saw a few more threads today and saw that the XE9005 lacks a few things like HLG , Dolby Vision/HDR10+, fast smart TV,etc.

@zeppelino i saw in another thread that you have a Q7F. You are not satisfied with it ? Would you change it with a XE9005 if you could?

    Thanks

HLG is not important yet, and won’t be for several years yet. If you think DV will be important for you then you’ll need to wait. There are different manufacturers supporting each hdr format so for the time being you just have to pick the best tv for your uses currently, not future uses.

I am very happy with my Q7. Would I swap it? No. But I know the XE is a better tv, picture quality wise. As for smart tv, they’ll all slow down over time so I wouldn’t factor it in.

I want to buy something that I will keep for 5-7 years (probably), that`s why I don`t want to rush and buy the XE, though it`s probably the best choice now.
I would like OLED, but the prices are much higher for the 65" .

From what I know is that the Q7FN is supporting HDR10+, HLG and definitely has a faster OS which in theory should be, let`s say "more future proof". I know that there are no such thing like "future proof" but let`s just say so :)

Considering the price that I could still get for the Q7FN(the promotion ends today)and all the above, would you recommend me to:
    1. wait 1 or 2 months to see if the prices for XF9005/OLED will drop
    2. buy the XE9005 now for 1175 euro (2 years warranty)
    3. buy the Q7FN now for 1390 euro (1 year warranty)
    4. to leave you guys alone , because I`m having to much questions :)

Waiting will be longer than 1/2 months for prices to drop. OLED has dropped to its lowest point right now, but for 2017 models - they could drop again or sell out.

    Still say get the XE.

It will be longer than that. Probably as much as 9-10 months from now until the XF90 and new Q7FN get to similar levels in pricing.

If you can wait then yes those TVs will be slightly more future proof. But really nowadays in 2-3 years anyway no matter what you buy the TV is going to be out of date, there is nothing really you can do about that its just the nature of buying a TV when HDR is still in its infancy.

Format support, Dolby Vision/HDR10+/HLG is just one part of the story, you can support all the formats in the world but how they look compared to on a more recent TV in a few years time is another matter.

Remember right now we only sit at around 1000-1500 nits of peak brightness when some HDR masters are at 10,000 nits.

We only sit at best around 70% colour coverage of the rec2020 HDR colour gamut.

Compare this to SDR where TVs now cover the full brightness range and the SDR colour range at 99% then you can see how much more room there is for HDR to develop.

Format support is the least of the worry, believe me.

The price of 1390 euro is for the new Q7FN .

Very good arguments about the format support

Well it depends what you care about, the Sony has better local dimming so will be the better TV for picture quality overall. Think of it like buying last years model car with better handling.

The Q7FN gets brighter with HDR and has slightly better colour too on top of a better smart system, it's more of a flashy modern car but perhaps isn't as nice to drive overall as its handling is lacking.

So both TVs are good choices and which you go for depends on what you value, raw picture quality from the Sony or more bells and whistles on the Samsung.

Only if you can afford it. Do not push your finances for a tv.

B7 is far superior to both previous options. I’d go for that.

If you can afford it its worth it but I wouldn't say its better bang for buck, all these TVs mentioned are good bang for buck.

But the good thing about the OLED is it brings better improvements to picture quality overall. As someone described here on the forums, it made normal blu-rays look like HDR.

Best value per kg it means (or equivalent). But for overall quality the B7 is hard to beat.

In this case, it doesn’t mean it’s not worth it.

I was looking today for the best price of the B7 and was decide to order it.
Afternoon I went to the mall to take another look at it before making the order and found out that I was lucky that I didn't go yesterday to pick up the reserved XE because they just dropped the price to 990 euro (almost 200 euro).

I think I shouldn't miss out this opportunity and go with the XE. Any suggestions???

    Thx,

B7 is clearly a better tv, but I don't think its worth the difference now.
I think it's better to buy the XE now and in a few yeras to see what will change in the tehnology, especially after the lunch of the PS5 .
