I need to downgrade from my 51" plasma to something smaller but it needs to be amazeballs at displaying a HDMI signal from a desktop PC. I have no idea if LCD/LED or Plasma is better for this. Educate me and direct me to something 40-42"around the €800-900 mark.

When you say PC use - gaming and TV streaming, or web browsing, working - if the latter LCD, if the former, plasma

And what on earth does amazeballs mean!?

I would only use lcd if web browsing and make sure you get one that supports 4:4:4 over hdmi so that you get a crisp image like a pc monitor. The current sony range W6, W8 and W9 support 4:4:4 in games or graphic scene modes and most Samsung lcd support it as well if you change the input name label to PC. I do not know about other makes. The HDTV test review site should say whether 4:4:4 is supported in their tv reviews so you can see for yourself.
Regards
