Due to a problem with my old 40 gig PJB-100 I am looking for a replacement, my current machine has over 20 gig of music on it so really I would like a 40 gig machine, but a 30 would do. I do not want an iPOD as I found the sound quality poorer than my PJB-100. A HD5 from Sony was on my list but I see that it is now discontinued and teh new Walkman is only 20 gig.

Does ATRAC give smaller files than MP3 with same quality (most of my files are done at 192)?

TIA for all help and comments.

You can still get the HD5H (30 gig) pretty much everywhere.

You should also give a listen to an HD5 with Atrac3+ at 64kbps. IF it sounds good to you, then the HD5 will have plenty of capacity for you.
