Just ordered a Canon EOS 300D and wondering if anyone has recommendations for a 1GB compact flash card? Are there any limitations with the 300D on what type of CF (high speed?) can be used? Any good deals on 1GB CF cards at the moment?

    Regards

    Rob

As far as I know the 300D will accept all CF cards no matter what size, based on currently availiable CF sizes.

However I would recommend that you don't but a 1GB card but instead buy 2x 512MB ones.

1GB CF cards are still very expensive and although very useful if you were to loose it or it were to get damaged then you would loose an awful lot of photos. Its kind of like putting all your eggs in one basket.

Until the prices of 1GB+ cards come down I would say buy more smaller ones.

I use the Sandisk ultra CF card with my 300D it's nice and fast. You can get the ultra II card now but I'm not sure what the difference is.

The 300D firmware has been tailored for the Scandisk Ultra Brand - they are the fastest and best quality. See http://www.parkcameras.com/. I'd advise against buying generic brands.

Still dont think it's wise having a 1g card, too much to loose in one hit.

If you want big size cheap buy the creative muvo2 4Gb and extract the 4 gig microdrive in it (will cost you about £180-200).

I've done it for my sony 828 and it works fine, ok you will lose a lot of pictures if it fails, but it's great to have when you work with high resolutions. And if you are a very serious photographer you will buy a portable harddrive anyway to have a backup of the photos (both on the CF and the hd) :)

Also with the sony 828 i can fit in 52 minutes of 640*480 30fps film on it.

    I have a 300D with 512MB (40x) Lexar CF - it holds up to about 150 shots.

Thanks Laskina. Looks like I'll need to get another 512Mb card for the holidays.
