    Hi,

I'd like to buy a 17" widescreen LCD TV with a built-in Freeview tuner, for approximately £500. I've researched the options, and come up with 3 choices:

    - Toshiba 17WLT46
    - JVC LT-17D50BK
    - Humax LGB-17DTT

Can anyone please tell me which one is the best, and why?

I can't tell you which is best, but I am interested in learning as this is my shortlist too!

Perhaps this bounce back to the top will jog some memories, although I doubt anyone has seen the Humax in the flesh yet. I phoned them in the week and sales guy had to link to the website before acknowledging the new model existed!!

The Humax is extra interesting as it has the "top up tv" slot.

I can assure you that the Humax 17" does exist. I saw one in our local (Norwich) John Lewis. Its a very nice looking picture which seems to have a high spec in terms of connectivity. Humax boast that it is HDTV ready. I cannot recall the price but I think it was in excess of £600. This make seems difficult to track down. Hughes (internet site) were advertising the larger 26" model for a long time, but admitted that they had no stock. Now they have withdrawn it. It was advertised on QVC. This company has a high reputation in the set top box field. They are Korean, but stuff is assembled in Northern Ireland. One word of caution, the sets are actually 15:9.

The HUMAX TV you're referring to is the LGB-17DTT. It's got a resolution of 1280x768 pixels, and has a built-in Freeview tuner. However, it doesn't have an HDMI input, so is it truly HD Ready? Here's the webpage:

    http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/dtv_lcd17_lgb-17dtt.asp

Unfortunately, I can't find the price of it on Kelkoo.co.uk.

What does a 15:9 screen do with the display? Squash it, miss bits out, black stripes? Help!

I have the JVC LT-17D50BK on order.

Considered the Toshiba and JVC (and other lesser brands). Wanted an iDTV and chose the JVC mainly due to the better aesthetics compared with the Tosh.

Every likelihood that these two use the same internal electronics and TFT panel. Just badged and packaged differently.

Hey Mr Sparkle. Have you had any luck obtaining a JVC LT-17D50BK? I ordered one back at the start of January, but the store was unable to obtain one from JVC. I have since cancelled that order. I wonder when JVC will make the product available?

Ordered online at the end of January.

etailer 'estimated' shipping date 10th~14th February. Delivery date 15th~19th

Not in any hurry, but may give them a little chase tomorrow (10th) to see what's what.

Hey, I just found out from JVC today that...

"there is a delay with shipping and we will not receive delivery until March."

So, the JVC LT-17D50BK will not be available until March. I hope that clears things up.

Just got an email today to advise me that the shipment would be delayed for 4~6 weeks. Ho Hum. Guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer.

Does anyone know why the JVC LT-17D50BK has now dissapeared from JVC.co.uk? Check out their LCD TV's page:

    http://www.jvc.co.uk/product-list.php?id=100088

See. No mention of the LT-17D50BK. The only 17" LCD they mention is the LT-17E31, but this doesn't contain a Freeview tuner.

Cancelled my 17" JVC order after waiting two months and no confirmed delivery date. Apparently this product has not yet been released by JVC and the timescale for the release is not decided........shame it was a good looking TV.

Bought the 26" Sonix LCD (from Sainsburys) and a Sagem ITD64 instead.

Yes I'm also on of those unhappy punters trying to shortlist a 17" lcd idtv. I called JVC and after almost 10 minutes of PABX queuing, I spoke to a JVC rep who said that the release of the D version was now well into April. Unfortunately it is a completely different chassis (wider and deeper) than the C version (lt-17c50) so you wont be able to upgrade the non-idtv C version :thumbsdow

Also be aware that some online retailers have been "holding" customers cash for over 3 months on the pretense of what seems to be a very competitive "pre launch" price on the lt-17D50, which when it is finally release, I dare say they might not be able to offer it at that price and will refund customers hereby having had 3 months interest free loans. I am told this is common practice. :nono:

So its either the Humax or the Tosh - I am swayed by the Tosh but without components or HDMI, its not HD ready.

Does the Humax have VESA mounts?
