    Hi,

I'm looking for a new monitor to replace my 19"CRT one because I have to move it about preety often and the CRT weighs a ton. What is the best monitior you can get for under £130?
Will be used mainly for surfing the net, Football Manager, Counterstrike and C&C3. My graphics card is a Radeon X550XT if that makes and difference.

    Cheers

Are you looking for one with DVI, or are you not bothered? There are some good value analogue monitors at that price point.

I dont really know the difference to be honest. I know my graphics card has 2 outputs that are different shapes and sizes. Which is best?

The DVI (digital video) is this one on the far right:

The other one is VGA (analogue video).

Some people notice the difference, others don't. Tough one really. I've only ever had VGA TFT LCD monitors.

My current monitor has one of those connections, as does my TV. Maybe I should look for a digital one then. Any recommendations?

Also, my graphics card doesn't seem to have a 1440x900 (or whatever it is) option so does that mean a widescreen monitor wouldn't work? Was hoping to connect the PC to my LE32R74BD but i guess that wont work either as its widescreen?? :(

    Personally I think that's quite expensive for a 4:3 19". I'd spend a bit extra and go for a 20" or 22" widescreen.

I use this monitor. I apid £120 but it is now £110.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/HANNS-G-HC194D-1280x1024-resolution-response/dp/B000G1T1GW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/026-0490530-2734832?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1178753931&sr=8-2

I don't like 19" widescreen monitors. The big resolution makes everything too small and hard to read. I wouldn't go under 22" if I had a widescreen one.

That isn't that expensive for a Samsung. I paid £500 for a Samsung 17" before that HannsG one.

The amazon price is good at £160, especially the cheapest other price I've seen is play.com that are doing it for £200. However, personally I'd spend a bit extra and go for a widescreen monitor. It depends what you are using it for I guess.

I'm really stretching the budget to get to £160 (although there is a refurbished one on amazon for £102) so i really cant go to £200. I dont think I'm too worried about widescreen as my TV will be in the same room. Its would also go with the rest of my set up as it's all samsung.

I'm not sure if i see any real advantage in widescreen monitors.

I don't see the point in widescreen monitors unless DVD's and widescreen games are being played. I use a projector and widescreen TV for DVD's and don't play games anymore.

The point about widescreen monitors is that if you use spreadsheets, you don't need to scroll across as much, if at all. And you can get more tabs visible in your firefox browser. I find it better just for that.

Are you going to promote www.ishift.co.uk in ALL of your posts?

Could you be the owner of iShift by any chance?

They are also great for having more than one window open at a time, without having to task switch between apps. The benefits of two monitors in one!

So would you surfers with a TFT less than 20" say that you dont notice much difference in PQ with the wide-screen?

I like the idea of being able to read the tabs on firefox when following a lot of links.

I am in the market for something around 20" Widescreen and dont have much more than £150 to spend.

If you want a widescreen for that sort of money have a look at ebuyer. They've got quite a few on there and most have reviews too.

I bought a Samsung WS 20" with 5ms recentley & I have to say that I didnt notice any difference between it thru DVI & the previous LG 17" LCD I had that was 2 1/2 yrs old & had a response rate of 16ms running thru VGA. The Samsung had both VGA & DVI ports so I used the VGA for my XBOX 360 & it was blurry & had some ghosting.

I was pretty dissapointed considering all the positive reviews its been given.
Samsung LCDs are overated. Just get what u can afford & dont pay for anything that u dont need. Although apparently a lot of the cheaper LCDs are just as good as the pricey ones as they are made in the same factory.

bigmondy - If you don't mind an analogue screen then this 19" widescreen may suit - great value too!
