I am looking to buy an LCD 1080p HDMI TV. What is the best model I could buy for around £1200?

    Thanks :hiya:

Samsung LE40M87 (LE40M86 at Curry's retailer special but same TV) is the one to get, however they are not expected in quantity for a couple of weeks. Expect to Pay up to 1,100 pounds web, 1200+ shop, 1,300 Curry's.

Sony KDLW2000 and Sharp LC42XD1E have their merits, but you are playing the lottery whether you get a decent one. The Sharp is outstanding but only if you get a good'un, lots of banding and buzzing isues. Sony's seem to have endemic clouding on the panels.

Been following this for a while, initially keen on the Sharp. Settled for a Samsung in the end. For a grand, you should not get a crap TV.

Samsung LE40M87 looks nice with 3 HDMI 1.3. Veyr future proof I take it and full HD 1080p.

Does this take 1080p on Component, D-SUB (VGA?) and HDMI?

I really like the look of the Sammy. Does it work ok with Xbox 360 and PS3 @ 1080p?

AFAIK there is 2.5% overscan on component @1080P, but 1:1 pixelmapping on all HDMI and VGA connections 1080P.

Well my 360 component cable died. So my PS3 will be HDMI and 360 VGA. If that helps.

    I have an M87.

Good News. PS3 via HDMI @ 1080p with 1:1 pixel mapping (JustScan mode) is outstanding.

Good News. XBOX 360 via component @ 1080p works but with a tiny bit of overscan. Doubt you'd notice it in games though. Most are upscaled from 720p anyway (Virtua Tennis 3 excepted)

Bad News. XBOX360 via VGA doesnt work at 1920x1080. This is common to a number of LCD's. The May XBOX360 update is supposed to fix a number of VGA problems, so fingers crossed. The TV happily accepts 1920x1080 from a PC via the VGA port, so its most likely an XBOX issue.

Might be worth getting a component cable till then...

this morning! someone posted to the M87 thread a bit later to say they had 3 in stock, so they've sold at least 5 today!

Many places are out of stock and are expecting them in during the second week of may. Dabs, 247electrical and cheapelectricals are the cheapest.

You could look at the M86 from dixons/currys/comet etc, its exactly the same TV but with a black strip at the bottom instead of silver. I think they want £1160 for it.

I have found 7 in stock at a store for £1109. Not a bad price but that comes with Next Day Delivery if you order before noon.
