    Hi everyone

Just getting everyone's views on what IEMs I could buy for around £200. I've have the HiFiMan RE-400 for the past 3 months and they just stopped working. So I'm looking at something with excellent sound for this price range.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks
    Sandeep

I had some Westone UM2s which were slightly more than that but very good.

Thanks guys, what's everyone's views on the Westone 4R, I know it's way over my budget but if it's worth it I could consider it as a long term investment since the cable is replaceable and the cable tends to be the main culprit in malfunctioned IEMs

I have the westone 4r's and they are excellent. There are other (cheaper) options to get iem's with removable cables if that is your main motivation - the cheaper westone umx and shure range for example, I think ultimate ears too . I always go for removable cables given that I find it is normally the first thing to go.

That being said I am madly in love with my 4r's - for me they sound fantastic.

Thanks for the info Spencer! Are you ale to wear the IEMs without wrapping the chord around your ear? The problem I'm having here is that I wear a turban and it would be impossible to wear headphones that need to go around the ear. See if you can try it :)

I have Westone UM3x now, the cords all wrap over the top of the ear but they're that close to my ear that I have no trouble wearing hats with it being winter. I know a turban isn't exactly the same but the principle should be the same :)

I can wear them without wrapping them round my ear and it is serviceable and I still get a good seal. However it isn't as comfortable. The reason is the 4Rs have a bit of memory wire on them to shape them for over ear use so they don't quite drop down as normal headphone wires would. They are meant for over ear wearing.

That being said - like probedb says the wire is very thin and you might find it is thin enough to be able to meet your needs

I was going to upload a photo but realised that I didn't know how to :( so stuck it on twitpic if you want to take a look ... westone 4r on Twitpic

Thanks for the info guys, I'm going to take the plunge and get the 4R's! Quite funny that I was looking for a ~£200 pair at the start and now going up to ~£400! Now just to find the cheapest pair online.

I can only find them for £370.

The Westone twisted cable on UM series is pretty much as discreet as you will get. Could always scout cable manufacturers for a thinner cabling in terms of ear section and ask for no memory wire plastic wrapping, 2-pin plug is ubiquitous

I paid about that. If I were you I'd go through a recommended reseller rather than just the cheapest

I managed to buy them over at iheadphones B Stock so the packaging's a bit messed up but everything else will be OK. Expected to receive them on Monday. Can't wait to see how they sound.

Enjoy. How are the wires over the ears? Also don't forget to ensure you are listening to lossless formats or very high bit rates
