Phil, is this pretty much a W2000 in a different coloured case?

Looks a little different on the rear, with the W2000 offering 3x HDMI if that is important to you. Plus, it doesn't seem to offer the pre-calibrated (not perfect but pretty good) Rec 709 cinema setting that the W2000 offers.

Thanks for the review. I have been using a W1070 for a couple of years now and it is without a doubt the best value home cinema component I have ever bought.

Most of the issues that come through in this review are unsurprisingly there on the W1070 as well, but I might get a demo to see if it is worth the upgrade. Have you used a W1070 and, if so, did you notice much difference? The rainbow effect reduction sounds useful, but I have largely learnt to ignore it anyway.

My room is set up in such a way that I can only use the BenQ range as everyone else uses a throw distance that is either too long or too short, so it is nice to have another option.

I am interested to try the wireless kit as well. I notice that the review states that it doesn't cause break-up of the image, but would you say the quality is 100% as good as having a direct HDMI cable connection or is there some loss?

Fan is noisier in the W1090 and there's no lens shift! Makes the W1070 look even more of a bargain imho...

But fan noise is an issue if you are going to place the projector close to your viewing position with 36dB in Normal lamp and 32dB in low lamp modes

Disappointment! I have the Benq 1085ST+ (ST version of 1075) and while it`s just fine shooting 106" picture in living room from a small table near front wall, it has noisy fans too which draws attention to projector while watching movie. :thumbsdow

So, I wonder if anyond can answer this.

The review notes that DLP in general cannot display very low light detail.

      Why?

All projector technologies have flaws, and I can understand the reason for most, but I can't figure out why DLP can't display low light detail.

A knock on question is this - what about digital cinema DLP?

That puts it out of the running for me. The W1070 is too loud as it is (especially for 3D where you can't use Eco mode).

I am surprised how much I have been able to accept the fan noise on the W1070 as it is usually something that really annoys me. I'd still happily pay double the current asking price of the W1070 for a machine that performs as well with lower fan noise.

I agree it`s too loud. You might want to demo W1110/W2000. Bigger box and better cooling = more silent reported everywhere. Prices ain`t that bad either.

Thanks. It looks like Eco mode on those a 27dB compared to 32dB on the W1090 and 30dB on the W1070.

Yes it should be much more silent, check some reviews and owners at AVSForums projector section mentioned it too many times. I knew the time i was looking projector that there is new models coming from Benq. Should have waited.

I just hate the sound really. First i had a buzzing big plasma, then this "vacuum cleaner". :D

We have requested them for review, I'm just waiting to find out when they are coming to us.
