Benq DLP - pixels failing in a cascade!

Hi guys,

I have a Benq W600 projector which is now a few years old. It is not heavily used and has probably done about 800 hours using the original bulb. The problem is that pixels (or whatever the equivalent) are starting to fail. The first one started flickering about 2 months ago and is now dead totally. I am now getting more failing and there are about half a dozen other pixels doing the same thing. Before too long, it is going to be, more or less, unwatchable.

Is there anything I can do about this? Will Benq take any interest? It seems a bit off that the panel is failing before the lamp which is normally considered to be a consumable and should last multiples of the panel lifetime...

Thanks for any thoughts

Unfortunately, things go wrong, electronics age and fail. I know what you're saying about the bulb vs. PJ age, however you've said yourself it's a few years old.

My 2-year-old, £2.1k iMac died in less than 2 years, needing a logic board replacement costing me almost £500 - so I can totally sympathise with you, but at some point you just realise that it's just how things are.

I suspect Benq will not be interested, it's way beyond their warranty period by the sounds of it. Your only choices now are to buy new or get it repaired I'm afraid.

Is repair really an option? Being realistic, it can only be worth a few hundred quid at best - I would have thought with a panel to replace and a bulb before too long, it will cost more to repair than it is worth??

Totally agree, but it's still a choice at the end of the day.

It is very disappointing though, certainly it will dissuade me from buying another Benq.

Turned it on tonight and not only are there some dull pixels which are visible as contast on light or dark screens, there is now one bright white one, right in the middle which is brighter than any other pixel on the panel and is like a motorcycle headlight coming at you!

One Benq W600 for the bin (interestingly, this was actually a replacement for my initial W600 which died of a different problem).
