I`m being swayed towards the Benq 7700 after months of looking to replace my deceased Sony.My latest excuse is best wait for the price reduction on the 7700,I think I`m permanently stuck on the fence.   :D

You've finally seen the light

I'm really impressed with the reviewers view on the black level on the HS50.

    Sounds great.

    My new favourite PJ :)

By all accounts screen door is worse on the Sony than the BenQ but with the Sony you never have to worry about the dreaded rainbows. Which for some people can be very annoying.

Both projectors are good but both have their problems. It's just a case of deciding which unit suits your application and eyes the best. The only proper way to decide that, is to go and have a demo.

    :D

Actually I rather fancy the look of that 7700 and it would definitely be top of my list if I were in the market now.

And with you liking the look of the HS50, who'd have thought......?

    ...PJ :)

If the 7700 was as dim as the Sony I think its black levels would be as good or even better. A ND filter would do this and you still have the option to go brighter if you want. DLP headaches are the biggest problem for me, I really need to see the 7700 in person before I know how I will react.

    It's only just come out!

I think it's more likely that the other HD2+ models will drop to compete with it than the Benq will drop. To me it's the most keenly priced projector in the market at present.

People who already have an opinion on the dlp vs lcd debate will know which pj of the two they would go for as neither eradicates the problems associated with each format, but for anyone who wants a hd ready pj for around £1500 I don't think you could go wrong with either.
I personally am very happy with the black levels on the 7700,very impressive
