Currently watch all my DVDs via a Toshiba 510 connected to a Panny AE100E via component output (using prog scan for NTSC material) sound goes to a now old, but reliable, Denon A1D

I have a case of upgradeites and still fancy the idea of a HCPC

    What are the benefits ?

I already have a Creative Audigy 2 soundcard and a ATI Radeon 9800Pro along with a 2.6GHZ PC, 512MB of Ram and 120GB HD

In simple terms what benefits will I get ?

Will there be layer changes ?
Will the picture be any better ?
Can I skip those "forced" menus ?

In simple terms - the best PQ you can get even including most high end set top players.

Using a good DVD package - I like Theatertek - with some postprocessing from something like ffdshow, then outputting to your pj, you'll be amazed at the improvement. If you want to go on using the Tosh, you could input a component signal from that into something like the the Sweetspot card hooked up to an X card and get much better quality than you currently get straight from the Tosh.

    1. No more layer changes.
    2. Picture can (& should) be far better.
    3. Yes

You've already got the PC so you've nothing to loose. Go for it!

    Hi Duncan

to get started then you dont need to worry about that, just get your Radeon to output to the AE100 native pixel resolution, and then try DVD playback with pretty much any software DVD player, and you will see a big leap in quality.

How far you want to go from there is up to you ...
