I got a DVD of the Bonaroo Music Festival and it had Ben Harper on it. Thought the song he did was really good. Anyone heard any of his cd's? Are they any good?

Just picked up "There Will Be a Light" in hmv this morning. Only bought it because it looked like a new release in the Blues section, and I fancied taking a punt on something. Pretty good so far, reminds me of "Brother Where Are Thou" :)

Well, I went out at the weekend and bought Diamonds on the Inside. It's great and just gets better each time I listen to it. I'm sure it won't be the last purchase. I'll add Welcome to the Cruel World to my Amazon wish list. Thanks Kenny!

My own recommendation would be for Will to Live, which strikes the perfect balance between his more introspective stuff and the full on rock. Harper is such an original, I find it hard to describe his music to those who haven't heard it, but something along the lines of a cross between marley and hendrix, with something mellower thrown in there, seems to be the best shorthand.

I'd go with the Will to Live, my favourite harper track is faded, although firght for your mind runs it pretty close.

I got Welcome to the Cruel World the other day. Didn't like it much on the first listen but then I gave it another go last night after a couple of drinks and really got it this time!! Didn't take the time to listen to it properly the first time. Now for my next purchase......

That is truely an amazing album :) If you like Pearl Jam its worth getting the "live at the garden dvd" at the end of Daughter Ben Harper comes on stage and sing "with my own two hands" with Eddie Vedder, and the dvd is worth it for that track alone.

I must have been bad during the year 'cos Santa didn't bring it. Oh well, off to the shops at lunch time. Got the new Elvis Costello - Delivery Man. It's pretty good stuff. He's touring next year too.

I hate that copy control, it's a real bugger. I've got a 40min train ride to / from work and like to listen to cd's on my iPod. I don't do illegal burns / file shares or stuff so it bugs me when I can't copy something I bought on to it. Why should I have to pay twice to download it from iTunes? The annoying thing is that most of my recent purchases would have cost less on iTunes and I could have then burned a disk and downloaded the artwork too!

Anyway, rant over. Have a good New Year. Happy listening in 2005.

It's a pain but you can get 'round it by using CDEx freeware which seperates out the CC file so you can convert to WMA or MP3 then to AAC for your iPod.

I'm like you, buy only "official" releases, spend over £100 a month and yet can't listen to the music I bought when and where I want to.

iTunes is great for those one-off tracks that you want but don't want to buy the album. Yesterday I downloaded "Boredom" by the Buzzcocks and Oh! Bondage Up Yours" by XRay Spex, both of which I've not heard for 20 years or so

It really is good for the one off tracks. I downloaded "She F'in Hates Me" by Puddle of Mud to remind me of my ex-wife!!
