I'm thinking of getting a projector and have a couple of questions:

    (1) Is there an advantage in having a DVD player which outputs in progressive scan? Or will a good projector be able to handle an interlaced signal just as well as a progressive scan signal? I'm thinking of something like the NEC HT1000, but don't know whether I should also get a progressive scan DVD player.

    (2) Is component output always progressive scan or can it also be interlaced?

    1. Yes. If the chip in the player is better than the chip in the projector. Check out the intro tread for more. I think there is a link to a website that explains prog scan and reviews prog scan players, external processors etc.

    2. No component is not always prog scan.

Thank you for the info and the link - very helpful, great article.

Do you know whether PAL progressive is available for the Denon DVD-A1? If yes, do you know how to get an existing one upgraded? (Sorry if these are common questions or this is the wrong forum to ask them.)

The Denon can support PAL prog scan if it has a firmware upgrade to be multi region.
Talk to your Denon dealer :- he may have a firmware disc.
