Beginners Guide to Home Cinema System's?

Is there any guide out there that you can read up on amplifers, speakers, recievers etc. I'm new to sound systems and what to learn from the begining ie what an amplifier is and how it works, connects etc.

Is there anything out there for beginners that start them of with the basics?

If you go to wikipedia and search for home cinema there's a load of stuff on there. You can obviously search for each seperate component aswell and there should be good descriptions of each.
