    Hi all,
I am after a "good" CD of Beethoven Symphony No.9, I have 2 copies but the production on classical CD's always seems ****. Does anybody know of a very good CD version of this anywhere ? I have searched the forums but found no answers. Thanks in advance. SY

Marriner version was good and distinctive from the years of 'Karajan'.

I would grab a copy of one of the classical music CD guides. They list recording quality as well as musical quality. Try the library, or Amazon if you want to keep it for further use.

The Beethoven cycle from Daniel Barenboim with the Berlin state orchestra (berliner staatskapelle) under the Teldec label issued in 5.1 DVD-A has a very poist and spaceous reading of the 9th Symphony. Check it out. On the CD front, one of the most definitive and luscious reading accdg to a number of reviews comes from the Decca recording of the 9th from the late Sir George Solti and the Chicago Symphony with Jesse Norman released in 1987. Don't know if this is still available.
