Looks like a good day was had by all ! Does your camera have a depth of field preview on it then ? If so, what does it actually display when in this mode ? Do you see the scene as it would be on the photo ?

Showing the shallow depth of field capability of the lens is all well and good, but you also need to concentrate on the artistic merit of your pictures. I'm not sure any of them look like anything other than snapshots.

I don't want you to think I'm being harsh for the sake of it, but I assume that you posted them on here in order to receive some honest feedback. It's quite easy to get carried away by the technical side of things, to such an extent that you forget what makes an image attractive to the eye. :)

I can't see how any of them can be described as "snapshots" For me a snapshot is something you just point and shoot at whilst on holiday etc, these have all had some thought and some human intervention to achieve something a little different to the norm.

In that they aren't very good and appear to have had little thought put into composition. Sorry to be blunt, but that's my opinion.

I have to agree with homerdog on this one. They are nothing but snapshots taken with an expensive camera.

I'm not sure what you expect to see at a BBQ in aback garden ? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically ... ;)

That's exactly the point, there probably is nothing worth shooting at a BBQ that is of interest to other photographers, let alone anyone else. After all, this is a photography forum.

It is and i've known a lot the lads for some time (actually been a member of the for 4 years), just sharing a good day. This is a small friendly forum and those who know the history of this forum will know that people are free to share what they want, and if they want critique well then that's for the critique section.

You've just joined so you want know that, but it's cool. I don't take what you've said badly in anyway at all ;)

the Dome ? just kidding ;)

The monster that Pete built is a tad extreme isn't it, half the time we use normal ones as well.

This photography lark really does make me think more about the appearance of things though which is great. Not many hobbies you can share with a mate who's over 100 miles away :smashin:
