BBFC Now Backtracking!

Hi,

According to this website, it seems that the BBFC are now willing to censor films that they passed uncut just a few years earlier!

This does not bode well. Admittedly, I can see why they've cut "Sweet Sweetback's Badassssssss Song", but still, what's to say they don't use this form of censorship for other contentious titles, like Louis Malle's "Pretty Baby", which includes scenes of a teenage Brook Shield's being nude in scenes with adult males!

And I also note that "Taxi Zum Klo" has been passed as an uncut 18 certificate, despite it containing scenes of adult material that are banned in R18 sex films! Said film has also been shown uncut on FilmFour in the past two weeks, and yet channels like TVX, The Adult Channel, Playboy et al would not be allowed to include the same kind of material, as they would be breaking OFCOM refgulations.

This all seems very confusing, for British film fans! Either we are allowed to see certain images, or we're not. At the minute, between the BBFC, OFCOM and HM Customs And Excise, this doesn't seem to be the case - as all seem to contradict one another.

Pooch that why we love the internet - the BBFC are mostly redundant now we can get what we want from overseas instead.

but i agree it is confuising.

I'm not quite sure how one could go about censoring "Pretty Baby" - the entire film is about a 12-year-old girl being brought up in a brothel. If you cut out any faintly sexual elements, there'd be nothing left. It'd be like trying to censor all the paedophilia references in "Lolita".

IIRC the BBFC have already optically censored it - the "patch" above Ms. Shields' choo-cha had the shadow darkened so you couldn't see even a hint of vaginal detail.

You can on the R1 dvd. Not that I know.

What does it matter since the BBFC will be redundant in a few years anyway since nearly every film release these days seems to be 12A .

all films should be uncensored and left to the adult individual to choose what they see , not left up to the BBFC.
