BBC One HD seems to have increased its bitrate, just for the royal wedding - as BBC HD Channel is displaying a static picture which obviously uses up far less bitrate when it was due to be showing the BBC HD preview. Can anyone get a bitrate measure for the morning/early afternoon of 29th July?
One estimate I have seen is its running at 11.5 MBit/s which is far more than before, and almost getting back to the good old days when we used to get decent HD from the BBC :)

It was running at over 10Mbit/s according to Linowsat at midday during the wedding - that is far more than recent times.

Standard is 8Mbit/sec, same PQ as the older encoders at 12Mbit/sec. Remember both were changed at the same time.
In several years time when we switch to a SFN (Single Frequency Network) then we can think about doing more.

It went down to 6Mbit/s at one point though didn't it?
Why is BBC HD channel displaying a static picture then during the wedding when at all other times it shows BBC HD Preview?
I am talking about freesat btw - not freeview HD

Its a shame last nights repeat of Jools Holland did not get a bit rate increase because my god the background was just full of artifacts all over the place. The colours looked great and the overall pic was very good for static shots and no flashing light scenes, just a shame the encoder could not handle any movement and the lights.

Also Ive noticed on the same transponder as the BBC HD channels there is an ITV HD running about about 5mbps. Anyone know what region this is for?? Seems random to have it there and espepically to be running at such low bit rates.

Its partially using up the massive load of empty space they had on that transponder for ages, that they could of used for bbc hd picture quality It must be an ITV HD regional station, as the main ITV HD channels are 10mbps
