Something thats been annoying me for a while is when BBC1 switches to a local broadcast (Midlands for me) the picture never quite fills the screen, it's just not wide enough. It happens with both Freeview and NTL digital and I've seen it on 3 TV sets.
It also happens sometimes on the national news or on news24 when they show footage from other countries.

Does anyone know why this happens?
