BBC Freeview Reception Problems

when i try to watch bbc on my freeview via PlayTV through the PS3 the bbc channels stutter alot and impossible to watch.

the bbc radio stations and every other channel are fine.

if i watch freeview with the aerial connected directly to the tv instead i have no problem, however i wish to watch via PS3 as i can record and the channel guide is superior.

any ideas why it doesnt work via PlayTV ?

ive tried retuning.

Where are you? What transmitter do you watch? What aerial are you using?

Check all cables and connections:

Move the hdmi and aerial cables as far apart as you can - the hdmi can 'radiate' interference into the aerial lead at UHF frequencies.

Change the aerial fly lead (if there is one) for another - double-screened satellite style cable is preferred.
Change the hdmi cable used... the cheap ones from pound stores can work better than over-priced 'branded' versions.

[BBC Radio services are carried in the same multiplex in post-DSO areas, so I suspect you're in a pre-DSO area: London, Tyne Tees, Ulster or Meridian. You should find than BBC FOUR, CBeebies and BBC Parliament TV channels are OK as well as the BBC Radio services?]

im in Ulster and i use an aerial which is on the roof. when i use the same aerial cable plugged into a built in freeview tv i have no problems. it only happens when trying to watch via PlayTV on the PS3

ive tried moving the cables and i did try using an expensive HDMI cable and same results

cbeebies works fine along with the bbc radio stations. too early in day to test bbc4 though i think it has actually worked

would a cheap HDMI cable really work ? or whats the fly lead thing

thanks

Yes cheap pound store hdmi leads work equally as well ... search this forum for examples.

If the ps3 will output video to the tv via another connector (scart or RCA/phono leads) use that so you can prove if the hdmi connection between ps3 and TV is causing the problem.

An aerial 'fly lead' is cable connecting between a wall socket and the TV or receiving device (or between vcr/pvr and tv). Often cheap thin cable with moulded plug/socket types and have poor screening.
