seen a couple of trailers and looks very promising

lucky folk in the USA can watch it in hi definition :( whilst we get stuck with the usual BBC standard despite the fact that the series was a collaberation between the BBC and HBO

i gather that the explicit sex scenes are allowed in the USA as its on HBO and not mainstream tv :D

Just hope the series isn't cut as per the rumours (not the sex but the background introducing the historical aspects) which the BBC believes the UK public will already be aware of. I wonder if the BBC are aware not everyone had an extensive education in Roman history from their local comp!

I would love to know just how much of a collabaration this actually was though:)

I was DL'ing the hi-def episodes as it aired, got bored of it though and gave up after about four episodes. It wasn't that bad but there's so much better stuff around that I'd rather watch.

    Hi,

    Just to let people know:

    1) Rome is being aired completely uncut and uncensored, and will be exactly the same as the US versions, with the exception of the Hi-Def picture.

    2) The show starts on BBC2 in early-November (the 2nd I think), and will air one episode per week, until early in the New Year! (Over Christmas/New Year, the episode numbers may increase though.) There are 12 episodes in total!

Rome is fanastic, think it episode 8 now and is my favourite tv show right now - better than lost season two atm imo.

so far ive watched them all with high resolution hdtv rips with dolby digital sound. its not 1280x720 but HR HDTV AC3 is very close and if you use ffdshow to scale up to 720p and watch it on a HD ready source it is an amazing picture. watch it on a 92" hidef projector myself - no complaints! :)

Apparently BBC paid $800K per episode towards it and it cost over $100M in total - vaguely think this is what i read on avs

    Good to know:)
It would have been ridiculous if the BBC had gone ahead with their plans to shorten the first 3 eps in to 2 eps by removing what they consider unwanted background story.

I've read similar reports (first 3 eps into 2) for the last couple of months once the US had started their broadcasts but Pooch who knows what he is talking about says it will be identical to the US version so hopefully we won't be short changed with a butchered version.

Just to echo what some others have said - this series is well worth watching. I've been watching it on HBO and, despite the adverts break every few minutes, it is a decent period drama. Looking forward to seeing it ad free on the BBC.

Ive been watching this, Was taken back by the "full frontal Nudity" aspects of it, but welcome it as no other shows seem to have the guts to show so much.

The story is good and doesnt focus on major battles the way history books do. It focuses on everyday Roman people and their lives.

Of course it is the story of how Gaius Caesar came into power, but it doesnt just focus on that.

Well worth a watch me thinks. In hi def its pretty amazing too.
So either DL or watch on DVD with an upscaling player.

No - not too bad. I am living on the Space Coast and most of the problems have been in Key West and the West coast (Naples).

I wish - they do during Rome that's for sure.

    Now that's a surprise.
HBO has made it's name by being a premium subscription channel which not only carries no advertising but doesn't even have product placement.

I would ask if you were sure you were watching genuine HBO if the question wasn't so stupid:)

Yes it's genuine HBO - Channel 2 in the cable package I have. It's highly rated in the US but IMHO is effectively a upmarket ITV. I have HBO-HD as well. :)

I am in America alot on business and have never over the last ten years seen an advert on HBO. I was there 2 months ago, visited 4 states (west and east coast) and never did HBO advertise.

The content isn't even formatted for ad breaks!

Also none of my hidef rome captures have ad breaks.
