Anybody know what sort of footprint the new BBC FTV channels (BBC1,2 etc) will have when they split from sky. I saw that it will still be on Astra 2 but as I understand it there are still different satellites and we can only get some of them from here.

AFAIU, one of the major reasons why they're quitting encrypted broadcasts is that they can virtually guarantee a tightly-focused beam to ensure UK-only reception (IOW you're going to need a very big dish from where you are !).

The 2D footprint covers a significant part of Europe regardless what the BBC PR people say.
It makes me wonder if the BBC managment are aware of this are really that ignorant to the 2D coverage, either way the program/movies/sports distributors will not be hoodwinked by those press releases.

Yes but to see it you'll need a set up that can see Astra 2D and the main European satellite transmissions at 19.2.

Only the enthusiasts, ex pats and some pubs wil be interested.

I can't imagine the average French family rushing out to get new kit to watch EastEnders of Newsnight...

The issue that seems to be causing most grief is the loss of BBC Radio Channels.

And you know what Radio 4 listeners are like for moaning...

I think we can get a satelllite at 24 deg, we can definitely can radio 1,2,3,4 although not 5 live for some reason and I've got a 2m dish. You can get 4m dish but that would take up a lot of my garden. Bizarely I can also get a welsh digital channel so I manged to watch Scotland vs Wales rugby match in Welsh!

When are the BBC going to start?
