Yep, one of the best sci-fi / drama series

Possibly of interest to those that do or don't already have BSG and/or the mini-series, the R1 5-disc boxset is released on 20th September. Has all the content we should have got over here on the series 1 and miniseries releases (apart from the slightly different US opening titles and theme).

dvd.co.uk and Choices Direct also have it for £17.99 but like krish72 mentioned, if you dont have the Mini-Series yet then you might want to hold off on getting the R2 release of either the Mini-Series or Season 1 as the R1 Set has everything the UK sets have plus commentaries, Behind the Scenes features and more.

I was intending to get the mini-series of this recently, but the UK release is rubbish. How they can justify removing the multitude of extras available on the R1 is beyond me...

They didnt remove them from the R2 release, they just were not available at the time, remember we got the Mini-Series on DVD March 2004 where as the US didnt get it until December, same with Season 1, we got it in March and the US set isnt released until next month.

If they had delayed the UK release I am sure they would have included the commentaries and other extras but they decided to release them early and go barebones.

Hmm... didn't know that. Still, with the situation I mentioned being true for such things as The West Wing and Deadwood, it's natural to assume that R2 just got screwed over yet again on a TV release.

I have just finished watching the R2 Series 1 from Choices and agree that this is the best sci fi show since Firefly. Forget the rubbish that is Star Wars and Star Trek - this is real sci-fi where there are actually human beings in the story!
Personally I have never listened to a commentary - I have a life - but there is about 40 minutes of deleted scenes which is good enough for me.

You must listen to the cast commentary for LOTR - Billy and Dom are hilarious at times!

    What about comedy DVDs...?

    e.g...

Peter Kay's commentaries on his DVD's are like listening to a new standup performance

Ricky Gervais (& Steve Merchant) - on the Office Christmas Specials and Gervais live DVDs are quite entertaining

The commentaries on Red Dwarf, Black Books and Spaced are as good as the episodes :)

Yep, its brilliant how especially with Spaced 1 and 2, and the same team's Shaun Of The Dead, that they cram so much onto a single disc - they contain much more content than a lot of 2-disc SEs out there.
