Basically which one should I buy?
R1 is a 6 disc box set at £63.99 (Play)
R2 is a 7 disc box set at £49.99 (Play)
R2 is a 7 disc box set at £39.99 (Play) (Standard package)

I think R3 is a 7 disc boxset as well for around £50.00 (EZYDVD) (I think this is limited and will soon become a 6 disc box set)

Which would be the best boxset to buy.
Are there any differences with the extras etc.
It seems strange that R2 & R3 has more discs than R1, and the fact that R2 can be bought for £14.00 less.

    Have weirder things happened?

Amazon are doing the region 2 version for £37.48 (incl delivery)

Don't know which region is best as their aren't any reviews out yet that I can find...

Also EZYDVD are claiming that their packaging is only available in Australia. Looks the same as all the other regions though...

"Sorry, no DVDs could be found with that name" :p :D

I did check with dvdpricecheck and there was nothing cheaper than what has already been mentioned... unfortunately there are no reviews or region comparisons out yet so I am not sure which is best

If the R2 has 7 discs it probably contains the pilot episode which the R1 doesnt - so id be inclined to go for that.
im gonna buy it in the standard box R2 and avoid the more expensive version with the awful cylon head mask on it (how tacky can u get - this is for true battlestar nuts who collect the mugs, models, books etc)

Does the eye go back and forwards, on the packaging? If so I may buy one whilst under the influence, for nostalgic reasons.

Well that's strange because according to the review here the R1 does have the pilot episode.

I bought the R1 boxset a few weeks back and it contains all the episodes including the pilot episode but what isnt mentioned is that 4 of the 6 discs are double sided so you really get 10 discs.

Also, the red eye on the cyclon box doesnt move by itself, its ones of those images that you move and it appears to move but it is really quite bad and isnt worth the extra £10, the collectors book is nice though.

As for the extra disc, from what I can tell from websites that list it, it just contains all the extras that are spread out over the R1 discs so no idea why they have including it and it only seems to be available from Play.com, no where else is listing a 7 disc set.

Without trying to hijack the thread does anyone know offhand if a DVD release of the SciFi channel remake of this series is going to happen soon? I've sort of lost track of this project - has it been on Sky yet?

The Sci-Fi channel premieres the new series (sorry re-imagining) about December 9th stateside.

We may get it soon after (bit like the Dune series).

    Advance word is it pants.

The Cylons are machines made by humans in there own image. Crap and cheap idea. Also the cylons make war on an innocent speicies and humans step in, thus upsetting the Cylons. Basicly, the whole project is a crass metaphor for perceived justification of current US foreign policy.

    So judge for yourself.

Me, I'll get drunk and buy the old series in a fit of nostalgia (even if the Cylon eye don't go back and forward).

Oh and in the new series, Starbucks a woman.

Yeah here is a review of the remake :)

The game thats coming out looks pretty good though, might take a look at that :)

I think I will get the original series box set but without the cylon head thing, it just looks a bit tacky.
