Battlefield 2042 (Series X|S)

I'm really enjoying bf still. Playing old gen to avoid pc players and team up with ps mates...I really like it. Anyone on here still playing? I'm keen to play more....I'm bang average mind.

I bought this game for my XBox X a couple of weeks ago and I'm enjoying it as much as I did BF3&4.

Tried this again yesterday in the hope I would sink a few hours into it.
For me the game is still a mess, menu is clunky and just not easy to use. UI is ugly also.
I turned Crossplay off in the hope to get a decent game and waited 10+ minutes for it to not find a game or sit in a lobby with just myself. Crossplay turned back on and it was me and maybe 4 or 4 other console players against a 60 player lobby on PC. That did not go well. Gameplay felt better than launch but the maps and overall play of the game just doesn't feel right at all.
It's amazing how wrong they got this with some really good games to build upon.

Turned it off and uninstalled again, so many better shooters to play instead.

I haven’t played this since I got a refund and frankly was thinking I might see how it’s going and take another look. But this has put me off. I do miss battlefield but they haven’t made a battlefield game and doesn’t sound like the changes since I left have altered that fact.

Back to splatoon 3 for me I guess….

If you have the trial still available then might be worth a go.
I am sure if I sunk hours into it then I might get used to the gameplay, UI and Maps but it just felt so disjointed and that my squad was doing nothing.
I was playing Breakthrough and we were attacking and the Map was completely flat and open and no where to hide to hit the first objectives so we got nailed whenever we popped up heads up.

Just not a fun experience or good impression.
When it gets added to EA Play then I might sink some more hours into it but for now it was just not fun. Would rather load up BFV and play that.

I've been a BF fan since the beginning, played them all on a range of platforms and I agree, there are elements of this latest game that I really don't like - the weapon customisation is awful and I still haven't got on board with the specialists or whatever they're called but as for game play, I really, really like it.

I posted a bit of a moan on here a while back as I was struggling to find a game at all - I had cross play turned off as I only wanted to play with Xbox players and it never, ever found a game. Cross play on found games no bother but I hated playing with PC players, it just wasn't an enjoyable experience.

I uninstalled the new gen version and installed old gen - turned cross play on and it finds a game each and every time and the best thing, no PC players. That being said, I bought new gen, I want to play new gen so it's not ideal and not exactly what I paid for either.

As for alternatives, I am not a fan of COD although dip in to Cold War occasionally but I have always preferred BF over COD by a long shot. I have hand on heart had some amazing games on BF recently, I find it fun, really like the maps and genuinely like the gameplay. The game is not perfect, far from it in fact but I don't see any alternative games out there that have caught my eye.

It's better than BF1 in my opinion but it's nowhere near as good as the older titles. The menu system is a mess and the UI is confusing. I don't see how they can mess up what was damn near perfect on the last gen on the new gen? I'd love if you could play Golmud again. That map was excellent.

I never got in to BF1 or V - I am not a fan of FPS set in WW1/WW2 - not for any political reason, just can't get on with them! People rave about both these games though so maybe I missed out!

There are so many aspects of the game that I didn’t like but primarily I hated the gameplay speed and which you died, map design and the abilities. Which is probably too much to overcome.

My favourite BF game is BF3. Followed by BF4, then 1942 then 2 then V. 1 is my least favourite but still way ahead of 2042.

I feel that we just saw a franchise lose its way probably as core staff left and new ones took directions to make it ‘more like cod’.

I still would like a BF fix of some sort. Halo has kept me busy. Splatoon is doing like wise but neither are the same thing as full on proper BF.

I doubt it mate as I'm the same as you. Old weapons that have a lack of control etc. The one set during WWI drove me nuts with the voice talking about sector Apple etc. I've played them all including the bad company games and 3&4 were brilliant and I spent months playing those titles online. Never finished any of the single player story games though but that's what I loved so much about the Battlefield online conquest games, total chaos of noise and distraction. You might get a couple if kills in a row but if you killed a few more before getting plugged it was totally exhilarating. This game is very nearly as good as those old titles but something is missing. Maybe it's that I'm over 10 years older now and in my mid fifties and I find it a tad exhausting? But sometimes, every so often it's great again and I have a great time playing this new version.

I guess COD sells more so they tried to incorporate aspects of that franchise that rubs die hard BF fans up the wrong way

Yeah, but I mean it’s more that BF had something unique and overtime if you keep trying to make it more like any other game it loses the essence or what it had.

I’m absolutely not one of those who thinks games shouldn’t evolve. All those ‘no sprint in halo nutters’ are enough for anyone. Games should evolve and change. But you need to find a way to keep the essence of the game.

For me BF1 is where they started to lose their way. They took all their superb gun mechanics and limited every weapon to a specific range no matter the skill of the player. The took their open map design and started making it more like large corridor approaches like cod. They added in ridiculous amounts of grenades and gas that compressed the skill levels and just made it boring. They changed conquest so that once you were behind you always lost rather than the old games where comebacks were always possible. They added in the awful behemoths that didn’t change the result but just let the losing team rack up a load of no skill kills that completely destroyed the flow of the game. The vehicles spawning in as they did also took away from the game.

BFV restored the weapon mechanics back to where they should be and indeed better than they ever had been and went some way to fixing the map design. But vehicles were still not good and the organic feel whilst better still wasn’t where it had been.

But V had not enough content and huge problems with tone and presentation and this was due to their pressure to add micro-transactions in and make it more like a cod game.

2042 is just a mess or was when I last played it. I think they honestly need to start again from scratch. Almost with a new game. Call it something else. Define what a modern battlefield game should be and make it. A bit like they did with halo infinite (in terms of raw gameplay not content).

It's hard to quantify why a franchise losses its way, be it games or films. Generally it's down to success. It's a double edged sword as without success games, like films, dont get much of a life past the original. But with success they have many follow ons. I guess it's down to the originators moving on or not being part of development combined with corporate dominance? Personally I would still play BF3 and 4 online but there's just no one playing anymore.

After extensive play time with BF2042 since the open beta and early access, all the deviations from past Battlefields aside, the three things that spoil the gameplay flow the most for me are Mackay's grappling hook, Sundance's wingsuit and Paik's wall hack. The net code could do with being improved too, because quite often it looks like 2-3 bullets from any gun kills you, whilst you're emptying mags into people.

Just re downloaded this because i have trial time left, lasted no more than 5 mins. Its still a big fat mess.

Amen to 100% all of the above brother. Sums it up perfectly. Ill be too old for the next iteration and to be honest Im thankful. Disappointment after disappointment

I got the super duper digital edition and haven't even booted it. Hopefully get around to it soon.

So what's the go to mode that everyone plays the most?

Also any good new maps?

Not played since around January, so now its free, fancy seeing what it's like.

Also crossplay on or off? Can you get full servers now with it off.

Finally.

Been holding out for this since impressions were mostly rubbish.

Will find out for myself now
Initial impressions.
It doesn't feel Battlefield-y.
Almost like a parody of what battlefield should be.
Obviously targeted at mass appeal towards the youngins.

I'm quite disappointed.
Did they do away with spotting?
When in a vehicle, visual HUD clutter has been turned up to max!
