Just seen this on Play.com out next week in time for the D day celebrations. Battle of Britain 2 disc set special edition (1969) directed by Guy Hamilton. Unlike the region 1 which came out some time ago in plain old fashioned stereo in this region 2 you can now chose either 5.1 or dts.I cant wait to hear those Spitfires and messersmits going round my front room and of course Susannah York in her undies :censored: Also coming out at the same time in 5.1 sound is A Bridge to Far and also next mth on cd the sound track from the film Battle of Britain by Ron Goodwin :D :D :D Just a quick p s in the film BOB when SusannahYork finds out that her husband/ boyfriend has been badly burned in his plane but survived she comes face to face with a real burned pilot playing the part of a ops leader.I met him about a year ago at his 80th bitrhday party he still going strong also met most of the remaing burns pilots The Guinnea Pig Club as the are known. As you know they were treated at Queen Victoria Hospital East Grinsted which is just up the road from me. :boring:

    Hi,

I've got both of these great films on order - they should kick my old R1 discs into touch. There's a new anamorphic special edition of The Eagle Has Landed is out next month, too. :smashin:

Same here, I've never heard either of them in anger so this should be great.

I was in the inlaws garden - heard a meaty sounding piston engined aircraft - then saw 1 Spitfire, 1 Hurricane and the Lancaster - wow.

A year or so later driving through town the Lancaster flew low made me jump - what a lovely sound

    Chaz, I stand corrected. :suicide:

I was getting confused with A Bridge Too Far which only has 5.1. Another one of my orders.

My late father could always recognise the sound of a Merlin engine long before the aircraft came into view, even years after the war. He was a "Merlin" technician with 617 Squadron (Lancasters). By coincidence, my late father-in-law also was a mechanic on Merlins, albeit in fighter squadrons.

Yes it was. He died 5 years ago but left me his log book and some super photos. He got a lot shrapnel in his leg on a raid and it caused a lot of problems for him in later life leading to 2 strokes. His log book makes great reading.

I'm looking forward to this but am not holding my breath with the 5.1.

If history has taught us anything it'll be just the music re-mixed in 5.1.

Not expecting Top Gun stuff anyway.

The whole film's a Rolls-Royce Merlin-fest. Why, even the Luftwaffe are flying Merlin-powered Spanish Heinkels and 109s. :smashin:

I recently revied both BOB and a bridge too far SE's over at DVDdebate.

BOB is superb, the best feature is the inclusion of the option to listen to the entire re recorded William Walton score

buy both films they are terrific SE's

I think the Spitfire is the most aesthetically perfect plane.
They were considering calling it the 'Shrew' you know.

it's a definite improvement over the old 2.0 surround version. Much smoother soundstage, more depth to it, better balance and separation. It's predominantly front speaker based, but still much nicer sounding than the previous release. Good batch of extras too (exactly the same video transfer though). Had mine for about a year or so now (Dutch release, same disc but 12 months earlier release), I'm quite impressed with it. :smashin:

A mate of mine tells me that it's the usual 'music only' 5.1 re-mix, nothing special but still better than mono.
