Watched this ages ago but was wondering what it's origins were and if there were any prequels/sequels available...it will be interesting to see how James Cameron interprets it in his live action remake...

See Decadence created a thread 5yrs ago, keener than me :D

Could this could be next up for Cameron, early indications say its in pre-production for a 2011/2012 release, now that Jim has the technology he created for Avatar, it would be a sinch to make.

I can't see Cameron doing this, he's already said in an interview he probably won't. He was going to make either this or Avatar to push the CG and 3D technology and he went with Avatar. He's said in a few interviews that he's either going to do something small next or an Avatar sequel.

It is such a wonderful story. The original Anime was probably one of the most accessible films to come out during the early 1990's when the genre was starting to cross over from Japan in a big way. If you still have a VHS player kicking about I thoroughly recommend you buy it, there are a couple of copies on Ebay for under £10.00 and it is pretty tough to get hold of these days. Don't think it ever made it to DVD?

This and Wicked City are two of my favourite Anime films.

James Cameron saying earier this week said he is only concentrating on at least 2 or 3 new Avatar sequels and not developing any other projects. He has responsed to a question asking if Battle Angel Alita is now dead, the answer is no, it will happen, but maybe upto 10 yrs away.

Robert Rodriguez will now direct the movie, with Cameron remaining on board as producer and still use his script.

It was always a long shot that Cameron would ever get around to doing this (despite talking it up on multiple occasions), but the change in directors is like trading your Ferrari for a Ford Focus.

Unless you think Cameron's output since the 90s has been toilet. Mind you, Rodriguez hasn't exactly got a glowing cv.

,Rosa Salazar ("Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," "CHiPs") cast in the lead role as role of Alita, an amnesiac cyborg from the 26th century who is rebuilt anew, retaining her formidable martial arts and bounty hunting abilities,
    but unfortunately not her memories.

Christoph Waltz is in the early stages of discussion to star in the Robert Rodriguez-directed, Cameron-scripted adaptation of the manga series Alita: Battle Angel. If it goes through, Waltz would star alongside Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner), who plays a
cyborg unearthed by a scientist (Waltz) in a junk yard. She grows up to become a bounty hunter after being taken under the wing of Waltz’s scientist. Cameron is also producing with Jon Landau and co-writing with Laeta Kalogridis. Fox is currently looking at a July 2018 release.
