I have recently purchased a JVC DR-GV1800EG digital camcorder and was surprised to find the battery fully discharged over a period of 24 hours with the camera switched off. On contacting JVC I was informed that this was normal and the battery had to be disconnected from the camera when not in use to prevent discharge.

The batteries on my previous (Canon) camcorder would last for weeks in the camera. My mobile phone has a similar Li-ion battery and that lasts 4 or 5 days with the phone on.

Is there a fault - or is it bad design? Can it be fixed?

My Sony PC7 discharges the battery when connected over around 48 hours.

I always remove from machine when not in use.

I believe this is pretty normal for a lot of machines.

    Cheers

Thanks for the info. (and welcome). It seems as though I'll have to live with it. Good camcorder apart from that - you would think with all the high-tech stuff crammed into the modern camcorder they would be able to turn the power off.

    Your right m8

It can be done, as I have an old Pana VHS-C that does.

    Ah well. :(
