Thought I'd conduct a poll to see what we're all getting from our players in terms of juice. I'm hoping this will be more helpful to people than simply reading conflicting reports online about how many hours each player's battery is supposed to last per single charge (which is broadly meaningless anyway).

If you vote, it would be helpful to post in this thread as well, giving answers to the following as accurately as you can:

    1) What player do you own?

    2) How long have you owned it?

    3) Does it have an internal or removable battery?

    4) If removable, how old is the battery?

    5) What format/bitrate do you use most?

    6) How loud do listen to music on your player (1= Very low; 10= Very loud)

    7) For how long do you listen to your player on average each day?

    8) How often do you charge your player's batteries (be as accurate as you can)

    Here are my answers:

    1) Panasonic SL-CT710 CD/MP3 Combo Player
    2) About four months, if memory serves correctly?
    3) It has two types of removable battery: 2 x 'chewing gum' variety + 2 x AA via attachable pack
    4) I'm guessing the 'chewing gum' batteries that were supplied with the player are probably a bit older than the unit itself. The AAs are about 6 months old and are rechargeable.
    5) I only use standard CDs, so equivalent to using uncompressed WAV.
    6) My volume goes from 1-25, and I listen around 16-20 - so that's about 6-7 on a scale of 1-10.
    7) Between 4 and 7 hours per day, five days' a week.
    8) About once every 9-10 days, including the external AAs.

    Over to you ...

My HD5 seems to go for more than a week without charging, though perhaps I'm not a particularly heavy user, perhaps 1-2 hours a day on the commute...

    [Edit - details:]
    1. Sony NW-HD5h (30GB) ATRAC/MP3 player
    2. Owned approx. 6 months
    3. Removeable Li-Ion battery
    4. 6 months (original which was bought with player - also have a backup spare)
    5. mostly 192 kbps (some @256 & 352k though) ATRAC3+ with a very few MP3s
    6. 5/10 (top AVLS setting = 14/30 - but vary with inline earphone volume control)
    7. 90 mins a day (usually in shuffle mode) 5-7 days a week
    8. Probably every 10-12 days, sometimes seems a whole fortnight...

Before attempting to correct the spelling of a professional writer, I suggest you check a dictionary ... there's no 'e'! :D

Thanks for contributing to the thread, though. Much appreciated.

    1) Rio Karma 2) 18 months old 3) internal battery 4) n/a 5) OGG 160kbps 6) Not very loud (25/30 on the player, but with volume controlled by headphones) 7) 2-3 hrs a day use 8) Charge every 3-4 days

I figure I get 10 hours of OGG (I got a lot more with MP3 192kbps) and I usually charge when down to 30-40% full. Pretty rubbish battery really, but as my player is there to handle the daily commute only I can live with it.

Sorry for plagarising MAIDENPRIEST but my specs are so similar I thought I'd save the typing...!!!

    1. Sony HD5 (Black & no cracked buttons)
    2. Since Aug 05
    3. Removable, I also have a spare living in my fridge!
    4. Spare battery is about 6 months old, I am not sure whether to rotate batteries
    5. MP3 128 & some Atract 192
    6. I have unlocked the volume, when listening with earplugs just under halfway to max, speakers or car just under max
    7. About 4 hours average, I can listen at work for 8 hours
+ with speakers i usally lose a bar after that long.
    8. I plug it in to the charger virtually every time I come home so thats at least once a day and I generally leave it overnight. Bottom line is that it last's so long I no longer even think about it.

Had a smug chuckle last year when I went down to NZ and even though I took my spare battery I never needed it during the 23 hour flight whilst sad trendy iPodders (of which there were several) were probably dying somewhere over the middle east..tee hee hee....!!!
