I've just purchased a 350D and will get a chance to play with it properly this weekend.

In a couple of weeks going on a safari to Zambia staying out in the bush so a bit worried about the battery life on the 350d. I have the battery supplied with the camera and also a couple of batteries I bought with my old Canon Powershot (G5?) 2 years ago.

How quickly does the 350D get through batteries?

I am happy that I have enough memory - I've got 2 x 1Gb, 1 x 512Mb, 2 x 256Mb so the disaster will be if there is no where in the bush to charge up my batteries. May need to take the old trusty SLR as a back up - thoughts?

Went last year to Tanzania and some of the places we stayed in had power to recharge, others didn't...

    Any experience would be appreciated.

Also was pretty happy with my pics last year so hoping for some good ones this year.

    Any comments on these?

I got about 450 shots from my first charge, and about 400 from the cheap 630maH replacements that 7day shop sell for £10 each. However I don't use flash much, if you do I would expect significantly less capacity.

For my 20D I got a charger from a hong kong ebay seller - it came with mains and car adaptors. If you will have access to a vehicle socket something similar for the 350 could solve your problem.

I thought the 350D and the G5 took different batteries, ie NB-2L for the 350d and BP511 for the G5.

I got another battery for my 350d from Ebay for about 7 quid, there are listings there where you can buy 2 at a time.

If you want to be on the safe side why don't you get yourself a battery grip. it takes two batteries (NB-2L) or it will take 6 x AA Batteries. And you also get a better balance of the camera and lots more buttons to play with. :smashin:

Could it be the Powershot S50?
I've got an older S30 and it takes the same batteries as my 350d, so that saved me having to buy more spares as I now have 3 batteries that can swap between cameras

Yes it is - checked last night!!

Apart from Severnsource has anyone else got any ideas on longevity of the battery's.

I have the original supplied with the 350D. original supplied with Powershot S50 and a Jessops own brand bought 2 years ago.

with mine it depends on what lens i'm using - with IS activated or my old 80-200L I get less shots than if I use something like a 50/1.8. Probably get somewhere between 300-400 shots on a fully charged battery though.
