    Hi,

I`m looking to getting some base traps and have read that they work best if they are not pushed right up to the wall. Can any one tell me the preferred gap that is required?

    regards.

You get better absorption if you leave the same gap behind an acoustic panel as the thickness of the panel eg 50mm gap for a 50mm panel. If you're talking about triangular corner traps then I'd look for upto a 50mm gap.

The reasoning for it is that as the sound wave passes through the panel it's energy is reduced, it then passes through the gap behind the panel reflects off the wall and back through the panel again therefore reducing its energy again.
