I know that a TV's display size (in inches) is measured across the diagonal but how does the measurement system work for 16:9 TVs? Do they still measure the 4:3 diagonal distance or do they measure the actual diagonal of the 16:9 screen?

    Michael.

They measure the actual diagonal for 16:9 TVs as well. Hence a 28" widescreen TV doesn't have the same vertical height as a 28" 4:3 TV.
