    Hello,

I'm thinking of just getting a fairly basic projector for the odd use around the home.

I'm trying to find out how to output live TV onto the projector?

I currently just have freeview through a normal aerial into the back of my smart TV. Do I just run a HDMI cable from the TV into the projector and change the source on the TV to that HDMI Port?
Then will the sound still play through my TV soundbar?

Sorry if these are really basic questions

    Thanks

    Phil

' TV into the projector' - No. TV's generally do not pass Video Out to a second Display device.

You will need to 'split/mirror' the Freeview HDMI Output to the TV + the Projector using a suitable 1x2 HDMI Distribution Amp (Splitter).

Specify a 1x2 HDMI Distribution Amp with Optical Out and feed that to your AV Amp.

    Thanks for replying Joe,

I'm looking on Amazon they all seem to be just for HDMI inputs, should I be looking for one with a coaxial input?

Just reread your Post - you will need to add in an External Freeview Box if you wish to view Freeview on the Projector.

You can either connect the Freeview Box direct to the Projector via HDMI and keep it 'stand alone' from the TV or add the Freeview Box plus a 1x2 HDMI 'Splitter' and Share the same Freeview Box to the TV and Projector.

    Thanks Joe.

That all makes sense. And what about the sound?

I'm guessing if the projector has speakers they'll be pretty useless. Would I run something from the freeview box to some speakers or from the projector?

Sound - you should be able to use the Freeview Box with the Soundbar (assuming the Soundbar is in a suitable position for the Projection Screen).

Connectivity - list out the Make and Model numbers of all items (TV, Projector, Soundbar, Sources...).
