Basic satellite questions and freesat

Hi All,

I'm new to satellite stuff as evidenced in a previous thread I started.

My dish has whats looks to be a single feed into the living room, is it possible to record one channel whilst watching another or do I need two feeds? In this case does that mean a new LNB and two cables fed through to the receiver?

On the receiver front, I plan to build an HTPC, I think I'm right that if I use an DVB-S2 card I'll be able to receive the freesat channels including HD, would someone confirm this? In fact I guess I can receive any FTA channels from whatever satellite I point the dish at, although in reality this will most likely be 28.2 or are there better choices? And finally, I take it that I won't get the Fressat EPG when using a PC card or do the makers provide this as part of a future firmware update?

Many thanks for you patience.

New LNB and two cables required.

Yes to getting freesat inc HD but will require more than Windows media centre as it does not support H264 (HD). EPG can be made available see http://shop.blackgold.tv/kbase/users/kb.php although this is the cheapest card I have seen to date http://shop.blackgold.tv/kbase/users/kb.php
I have dabbled with the Blackgold solution and have ended up using Freeview as I have tried most ways of sorting the issues out but none are really day to day workable. Suggest getting a HD Freesat PVR whan available.

Thought as much, thanks for the confirmation.

I was planning on using Mediaportal rather than Windows media centre which I believe can handle HD. My concern now is the day to day usage, what problems did you encounter? I wanted to build a media centre to cut down the number of boxes, but this was based on receiving freeview, which I now can't get since we moved house!!
