We've been subscribing to Sky Digital for just over a year and took advantage of the "Free Dish & Digibox" offer and got one of the bog standard digiboxes (Grundig - not sure which model)

I'm now in the process of upgrading my Home Cinema kit and have just purchased a Denon AVR3802. To my surprise, I see that there is no digital audio output on the digibox. (I don't subscribe to Sky+ )

Is it possible for me to purchase a new digibox with optical output and be able to just switch it with the original one? If so, is it worth doing this to be able to connect it to a optical input on the Denon AVR - would I be able to hear 5.1 on any suitable broadcasts even if I'm not subscribed to Sky+?

Sorry if these are stupid questions.....I'm not well versed in the tecchie side of digital TV!

    Thanks for your help,
    Adele.

Sorry, but you need to get a Sky+ digibox to get 5.1 sound :(

Thanks Alanrob........it was worth asking anyway!

I'll stick to my stereo phono connection and try using DPL2 until I can be persuaded to come up with the extra dosh for Sky+

I'm just not persuaded that it's worth the extra cash......

    Cheers,
    Adele.

Adele IMHO Sky+ is worth every penny of the extra £10 a month... sure, it would be nice if it was free but its not so we cant go down that route!

A recording device, twin recievers and cool lights do it for me!:D

As for the ability to record and playback films in 5.1 thats great!

like I said just my opinion, but i couldnt be without it at the moment.

In addition to the extra £10 a month, would I not have to shell out around £300 for a new digibox?

    £300+£50 installation.........
I'm sitting back in hope that 5.1 will be available without the need to go the Sky+ route, just an upgrade of the digibox will do,
before i collect my pension would be nice.
