I'll have you know my nature is not dubious :D

Seriously, if that's the case why leave other orders in place? I reckon they are simply a badly run business (which is why they don't make money of course).

I don't mind waiting nor not getting the items but there's no excuse for bad communication (or none).

Strange end to my Videodrome story.

Basically, I received my copy from the 3 for 2 deal and the packaging for it was wrecked. I emailed B&N asking if I can exchange it. They very quickly replied saying they will send me an envelope to return the item, and once received back they would send me a new copy. In good ol' B&N fashion though I also received another email a few days later from them saying a new copy has been posted.

Two weeks later, not received that envelope but I have this morning received a new copy. Hum. Not sure what to do now. Could it be I've gotten a second copy for free? I will keep the other one sealed for now, but hey could be worse.

I've never known B&N to insist on a return from an overseas customer; once they realise it's an airmail return, they usually tell you to keep the item and replace it or offer a full refund.

I'm presuming that is the case, but it just makes the original email sound bizarre. The choice of a replacement, and keeping the original, or a refund. Bit of a no brainer really isn't it. Bonus.

after bombarding relatives in the us with criterions for the last few years i decided to get my last order shipped directly to me as most on here seem to get away with customs ........ typically this order has failed to arrive !!! the order was shipped on January 26, 2011....... what's the most efficient method of reporting this to BN ??

Seriously, give it a good 10-12 weeks. I know the delays we had late last year have been mopped up but standard shipping can still take quite some time.

It's not looking good however so apart from the above recommendation you'd better brush up on your morse code.

received this reply regarding my missing order .....

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the delivery status of your Barnes
& Noble order. We apologize that your order has not been
received in the time frame expected.

Your package shipped on February 7, 2011 via Brokers World Wide/ISAL.
This shipping method usually takes 7 to 21 business days from the
shipping date to arrive. We expected delivery of your order on or
around March 8, 2011. The package has not been returned to our
warehouse as undeliverable to the shipping address you provided. If you
have not done so already, you may want to contact the local post office
that serves the shipping address, and also the destination country's
customs office, to determine if the package is being held or delayed at
    either place.

When no delivery confirmation is available, we will refund a lost
package up to sixty (60) days after the expected delivery date. As it
is now beyond sixty days, we are unable to refund this order. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We look forward to your next visit.

    Sincerely,

    Mary
    Customer Service Representative
    Barnes & Noble

When's the next sale due at B&N because, whilst the amazon offer is good, B&N normally work out cheaper when they have the offer on?

I think for the angst created by dealing with B&N the Amazon order does look attractive, even with added shipping costs.

How do the prices compare Amazon vs B&N?

The reason I am waiting, or hoping for B&N, is so I also don't need to worry about Customs. Agreed they are cheap with Amazon but the fear of Customs is enough to make me hope for the best with B&N for the future.

I'll still order a few (mostly DVDs) off B&N but the 5 or 6 of the titles I ordered from Amazon had been on order with B&N for 3 or 4 months -with no word and eventual cancellation. With no word. Arseholes.

I don't mind a few quid extra if I know I'm actually gonna get the item.

If you can't wait for the July 50% off Criterion sale (and hopefully, there will be a July sale...), B&N are rolling out their '3 fer 2 sale' right now; prices on most Criterions don't seem that hot but there is...

Save 7% off your entire order ONLINE, enter coupon code E7E4K8K at checkout. The 7% discount will be applied to all eligible items in your cart. Pre-orders are not eligible with this offer. This coupon is valid from January 1, 2011 to January 11, 2012 at 2:59 a.m. Eastern Time.

EDIT: t&cs - This offer is only valid on BN.Com from 12:00 a.m. EST June 7, and ends July 12, 2011 at 2:59 EST a.m., while supplies last. This offer may be redeemed once per customer and per billing address. In order to take advantage of this offer, place 3 or more qualifying DVDs or Blu-ray discs in your bn.com Shopping Cart and the least expensive single DVD or Blu-ray disc is yours FREE!
Choose from select titles bearing the following icon:

The swizz appears to be that it only applies to three in any one order, and not multiples thereof (I *think*). Which makes it a pretty weak offer...

I may have a decent chunk of cash set aside for this sale.

I may have a list of 'definite buys' and 'possible buys' too.

I hope this sale does actually come around

I am struggling to resist buying the likes of Solaris, Insignificance and Diabolique, but am trying to hold out for this sale :D

In the last 2 months, I've been concentrating on clearing my non-Criterion backlog (including off-air recordings), so my last Criterion purchases were the April releases. I'm hoping to pick up all the May, June and July releases when/if this sale starts.

A few Criterions have dropped in price making the current 3 fer 2 offer quite attractive (and at least comparable with the upcoming 50% off sale) - titles include Kiss Me Deadly, People On Sunday, Zazie dans le Metro and Black Moon. There's some nice coupons knocking around too; for instance, H3U4M7L gets you 10% off your whole order (valid until July 6).

Cheers John, been wanting Solaris, Kiss Me Deadly and Diabolique for a while now and at that price (around £14 per title including shipping) I bit the bullet.

Order them now and I don't need to order as many when the 50% off arrives, or rather end up ordering the same amount of titles but different ones in their place :D

Those are 3 films I have been dying to see though.

Thanks, John. I need everything from May onwards, so I just went for the 3 cheapest titles ($27.99): People On Sunday, Zazie dans le Metro and Black Moon. Total cost incl shipping, using your 10% code, was $60.84, so about £12.70 per title. Roll on 12th July!

John can you recall if preorders appear in the B&N sale? I'm after the killing, naked, fear and loathing in particular. Noticed the killing on amazon for $24.99 which is reasonable-ish.

Only if those pre-orders are due to go on sale during the period of the offer. IIRC the sales usually run three weeks?
