Currys have just started to do an AV Glass Stand for £99. I just got one and its the business.

Its basically a No Brand clone of the Alphason 105s but without the cable management. Its a bit bigger too (117cm wide)

    Product code KM1180.

Now beware, Currys staff are often useless, I rang 3 stores and they all said they had never heard of it. But actually going to the shops 1 had it on display and another had them in the back under a pile of boxes.

Its a bargin anway, £200 cheaper than the Alphason.
    :D

    Thanks for the heads up!

Could you answer a few questions? The Curry's website was a little short on details.

What are the total dimensions? Could you include the internal height between the shelves? Does it have castors, spikes or flat feet?

The columns - are they chrome silver, or the matt grey / silver of the Alphason stands?

What load can it take? I need it for AV equiment on the bottom shelf (inc a hefty Denon 3802 amp) and a 28" TV up top.

    Hope you can help,

    Rich.

can't remember dimensions. its about 52cm high, with the two shelf spaces equal spaced. the legs are brushed silver, with crome top, it actually looks better than the alphason. Its 117cm Wide with depth of 40 something CM's
big enough for my amp anyway

Don't know max weight, but its designed for AV equipment. I have an AMP and a Tivo on a shelf it it takes it fine.

It has flat feet, but its pretty heavy and stable, so no vibrations.

Worth a look anyway, if you can get a Curry's to admit to having them

actually its not that one as thats a Kenmark, this is a Currys NoBrand. The curry's one is slightly wider and higher, and not a corner unit, but it does look very much like this one yes.

Happyhiker, I suspect Kenmark have supplied these to Currys because of the KM code.

My wife stumbled across some stacked up cartons in Currys (none on display)and asked a salesman for the cost. She was gobsmacked when he said £99.99 as we hadn't seen any for less than £199.

I didn't hang about and it is now sitting proudly in my living room. Sturdy, spacious and easy to assemble - great value!

Hmmm.. good point. The measurements are quoted as different but either way, its a top stand for a top price.

Happyhiker, you are right it isn't the same stand. Currys is a little bigger but I am fairly sure it is also a Kenmark.

    I am thrilled with mine.

I hate the staff at curry’s. I visited my local curry's store over the weekend to get my hands on this bargain AV stand. And as happyhiker pointed out some of the staff are useless. The one guy who offered to help me did not know what I was talking about and tried to sell me a £300 stand instead, after 30 minutes of telling him that there is a stand that curry’s sell for £99 I got the hump and went home to get the product code for myself from this thread.
By the time I returned to the store it was shut. :suicide:

I decided to give it one more go the next day (Sunday), I walked in to the store, product code in hand and confident I was going to get my av stand, only to be told they sold there last 3 yesterday.

Now curry’s have sold out, I have checked the curry’s web site and 3 of my local stores. I can't even order one as they do not know if they will be getting any more in. Dam them.......

I picked up one today. Tried 2 local stores, but sold out.

Loughborough had 9 in stock, so got on from there.

    Just to clarify the dimensions:

    H 53cm
    L 118cm
    D 45cm

    Quality stand.

The index one is slightly different. The legs are chrome and the Currys ones are brushed s/steel.

Have u tried Loughborough? They have 8 in stock.

Can currys transfer stock between stores?

Worth asking. If they do it, it will take a week or so to come through.

    Just an idea.

Went to my Currys and got them to look into this £59 stand. They show 3 instock on thier system but dont have it, after further investigation it seems it was a mistake.
I got the Alphason in Piano black and even though it stung me £300 im well happy with it.

Thanks for the heads up on this, it actually led me to this:-

    http://www.johnlewis.com/Shopping/Product.aspx?Type=SKU&Id=230202595

which is just what I've been looking for, not too high and fits in a corner nicely, and a great price! Had never heard of Kenmark before to be honest but if John Lewis sell it it's good enough for me!

    Cheers,
    Andy.

It seems that these stands from Currys are discontinued stock and most stores only have the display ones left.

I phoned around a number of local stores and most said they could not sell the display units yet as then they would have to put a more expensive one on display as a replacement.

One store said 'no problem' and it was the last display one. However when I went to pick it up, there seemed to be other similar ones on display, the they had replaced my display unit with an identical one!
I also noticed some very similar ones for hundreds of £'s more.

Its much better than the chunky beech unit that I initially considered.
And they are only £60 now!!

    Thanks to happyhiker

My local Alders (Bolton Middlebrook) is clsoing down so nipped in with the missus tonight after work. Managed to get the Alphaosn 105s for £150. Result.

If anyones interested, at that point they still had others left (I asked the guy).

    Cheers

Just bought this KM1180 stand from Currys for £59.98p - Woking Store - They have 4 left and they are not advertised for sale, they were just in boxes at the back of the store! I had to ask what they were and how much!!! Although funnily enough they had all the £350+ stands on display with prices!

Anyone know if these are still available? I was thinking of changing my setup and had consdiered a wide and low wooden base unit, but at this price I could be tempted to try one.
I currently have the std TV stand but it's not really wide enough for my centre, I then have a separate 4 tier AVrack with all my stuff on.
Would oen of these be man enough to hold a 28" widescreen CRT, Aegis centre, AV amp, DVD, freeview & PS2?
