Hi all, I'm a complete newbie to front PJ (we've got a Toshiba rear Projection TV which is great  ).

We are just in the process of moving, and will have a dedicated home cinema room 8 foot wide by 15 foot long. The room wil be for viewing DVDs only, and found the above named PJ on ebay for £300...

    Are they any good?

Would it be OK as a first ever PJ?

What are the disadvantages of CRT? I realise it will be a far better picture than an LCD/DLP...

    Any advice?

    Tech838,

You got any further details on why that projector shouldn't be bought? Just wondered what your reasons were for making the statement? Wondered what you knew about this particular projector/seller?

    Thanks,

    Simon

I would honestly suggest looking at the 800 / 801 series projectors as a start if you are looking at a Barco (8" guns)
the 801 and 801s are the better design.
IMHO a better design and better end result for not a lot more £.

808 series are much bigger again cost more - obviously a better machine as well...

HOWEVER if you want a smaller unit then look at the Seleco range.

Anything above a 310 will have the very nice silver case with great curved lines, 7" guns. the 350 was the most somon pub installed pj on a 6 foot screen.

Seleco 150,190,195's are now getting a bit old and toward the end of their natural life IMHO - BUT they are/were good units just incase anyone out there is watching with one.....

Depending on budget you have of course......

I am a fan of Seleco and Barco - to me they both look great prior to a picture even being projected. I also like the build quality of both these machines.

(That said I have never had or owned a Marquee so others can advise there much better than me)

Now was that the PJ you wanted as well ???

I would be really sad if I saw a price war over a Barco 500 :nono:

hi yes I'm selling those projectors, if you want to come over and make your mind up for yourself I'm here late most nights. I'll have the projector set up and will just leave you to it if you like.

You can't get fairer than that.

    Let me know TA nathan
