I cannot believe it but I have been caught using my modded x-box on live. Really annoyed as only wanted it for 480p, not pirate games. I accidently turned it on in mod mode - and I forgot the damned thing was connected... :suicide:

Is there anyway around this at all ? Or have I wasted my years subscription to live????

    Thank in advance.....

    Pete.

Your Live subscription is fine. Its just the box thats banned. No way round it unfortunately. Its a new box I am afraid :(

On the plus side they can be picked up for £50 now SH.

How does it work if they ban you, I know its the machine, but is it the information on the hard drive that they register and ban you . ??
If so ( do you have the old hard and put that back in and it would be like new )
When i modded mine i put a bigger hard drive in then modded it, I still have the old one so if i want to go live i can just put my old H/D in and hey presto....
Dont know if it will work but buying somebody's H/D might do it...But then will you have to reregister with live ??
I dont have xbox live so i dont know how it work...
    hope this helps

Its the bios Id it bans I believe. Every Xbox has a unique one.

Bottom line replacement xbox required for live :( Your live account will still work though.

You can replace both the BIOS chip and the hard drive and that fools Live into thinking that it's a new box. The thing is that X-Box's are so cheap now that it's not really worth the hassle as a new bios and HD will cost around £50 (if you get a reasonable sized HD anyway).

You can use XKAI or XB Connect for your online gaming on a modded box instead of Live but if you've paid a years live subs then I guess you really want to be using that.

Personally i'd go for a new box just for live.

If you get someone to fit the new components it will certainly cost more to get it working again on Live than buying a new console. Keep an eye on the forums. I got one as new boxed with two official controllers and a game a few months back for around £50 delivered I seem to remember.

I you think about it they are almost criminally cheap. A new game is £30

Depends I guess. If you have a suitable, lockable Hard Drive kicking about then a new Bios chips is about £12 I think. XBox Scene has a lot more info on this side of things.

Like I said though i'd go for a new box if I could find once cheap enough. Less hassle and shouldn't really cost much more (especially if you need to buy a new HD).

This is naughty but it's worked for me several times: buy a new xbox at Argos and switch it with your blocked xbox then return it to Argos saying it was a duplicate present :D

That's very naughty Sarah. Not only are you ripping Argos off, but what about the poor customer after you who gets the box that's banned from Xbox Live when they buy the returned one?

I guess when it is returned for the first time they probably will resell it for lot less but still it will be keep coming back, like a boomarang. Can you do us a favour, let us know which store you will be returning it at so that we could stay away from that store.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

lol funny you should say that. My friend did it with one of her Dreamcasts and shortly after I had to swap mine in and I ended up getting her old one!

Probably not as peeved as the person who ended up getting one of my US PS2's recased in a UK case, probably blew a fuse when they plugged it in ;p

Remember kids, always use cash when you exchange them just in case they trace it back to you!

You get a 1 month timeout from the forums for being an unrepentant, immoral thief.

Unbelievable! Can't believe someone would brag about such disgusting behaviour. Month ban...should be a life time ban. Make sure you don't trade or take advice from this immoral loon.

It's actually the eeprom that get's banned and also the hard drive as well now since as soon as a virgin eeprom xbox goes on live it gets married with the hard drive so that even if you change the eeprom file the box gets flagged by the hard drive and banned again.

You can pick up a 'virgin' eeprom from guys on xbox-scene for a fiver and a 10 to 20gb hard drive should be free virtually. I have 5 left here, its postage that costs, any from an old pc will do.

Use configmagic to change your eeprom and do a new 'retail' install on the new hard drive. Trying to format the old one won't work by the way, the h/d id is locked in.

HAHA, that was hilarious, not just the ban, but getting your friends broken dreamcast back, serves you right...
